The radio is terrific. Weather info is so useful. The antenna supplied is not meant to handle full CB capabilities or deliver that much power. You must buy an external antenna or mid-loading telescopic aerial antenna offered by RS. Any technician will tell you that the antenna is 90% of the XMIT/RCV process. This radio competes with most permanent installs mobile or base - any brand or model. PERIOD......

I am looking at several radios for various uses from simple ragchew with locals to emergency comms. I picked this one up because I got a good price on it.

First of all, there is not a single hand held transceiver sold that comes with a "good" antenna. Not even the high end hand held ham radios. First thing to do is replace the antenna or adapt your full size CB antenna on your vehicle to use with it. I did just that.

The radio has terrible noise rejection! If you turn up the squelch to blank out the noise, you won't hear anyone more than 1/2 mile away.

Audio quality is the worst I have ever experienced in a new radio. When you do manage to make a contact, picking their voice out of the static is a real chore.

As for transmit range??? Got no idea because the receive range is so bad that even if I were getting out a couple of miles, I couldn't hear the response.

In short, this radio should bring shame on Cobra. They should never have released it for sale.

This is a great product if people would LISTEN you need to buy a external antenna I bought a magnetic mount antenna and now it works great I heard a guy clearly from 7 miles away on top of my hill that I live on but 7 miles is far thats a city or 2 away which is great I'm hoping to convince my friend to buy one b/c she lives about 5 miles away so this can easily do that! Very happy with product just need to buy another antenna!

This is a great product but it has one disadvantage and that is the stocked rubber ducky antenna. Honestly DO NOT TAKE THE RADIO BACK IF IT HAS BAD RANGE!!! You need to buy a scanner/ walkie talkie Center-Loaded Telescoping Whip Antenna thats for [$]at my radioshack or the Cobra® Telescopic Whip Antenna for Handheld CB Radios for [$] that you have to buy online but honestly the so called scanner antenna works as good or even better than the cb for[$]trust me the trucker channel 19 had no incoming signals now I can hear the truckers on a 3 on my signal meter! Overall though it's a great product!
