Comments about RadioShack AM/FM/Weather Tabletop Radio: I picked this up for my elderly dad who was having memory-loss and cognition problems. He loved music, but things with too many buttons confused him. This was perfect. Really just two things to deal with -- volume button and tuning button. And even though he got those confused sometimes, it was easy enough for him to correct himself most of the time. Also a great radio to take outside -- nothing complicated at all.

Comments about RadioShack AM/FM/Weather Tabletop Radio: This is a great radio. I purchased it mostly for its FM band and it is everything advertised if not more. I live about 60 miles away from the FM station I want to listen to and that station comes in clear as a bell. No other radio I have owned has been able to zero in on a station that far away. Beyond that the radio is smart looking and easy to operate. This radio is a winner in every way. Buy it!

Comments about RadioShack AM/FM/Weather Tabletop Radio: The tuner control is hard to turn like something isn't machined right. Won't work with batteries installed, and I tested the voltage and charge on the batteries just to make sure, then I tried it with a different set still didn't work. A that point I packed it up and it's getting returned.

Comments about RadioShack AM/FM/Weather Tabletop Radio: I have been trying many radios over a couple years to pull in my favorite FM station consistently. Right out of the box this worked! I have tried the so-called long range radios and they did not work effectively, this is amazing because my station is between two strong stations that would interfere on the radios that would pull it in. This radio has such good tuning that it rejects nearby strong signals and pulls in the frequency you want. The sound quality is awesome, if you use it in an area with lots of noise it gets loud enough without distortion to out-do the noise. Get this radio, you will not be sorry I am seriously thinking about buying another.

Comments about RadioShack AM/FM/Weather Tabletop Radio: I'm a fan of simple, basic retro-technology, and this item is a classic example. What you see is what you get: an analog AM/FM tuner, a power/volume knob, AC and battery power options, and a headphone jack. The monaural sound is excellent for an audio product in this price range, but if you're looking for audiophile quality, look elsewhere. The tuner, though, is where this puppy really sits up and barks. I've tried three boom boxes and a couple of pocket radios in my apartment, which seems to be in a bad reception area. I couldn't pick up more than two or three AM stations and often none at all, while FM reception was at best only tolerable. But this baby changed all that. The minute I plugged it in and fired it up, I knew I'd made a good decision. I can now pick up stations all across both bands, even difficult AM stations with weak signals. I enjoy listening to radio when I'm doing chores or surfing the net, and now I can do it without constantly having to fiddle with a tuning knob or antenna trying to improve bad reception. Seldom have I been so pleased with a purchase. To recap, this is simple, basic retro-technology that delivers what it promises and then some. Sometimes retro is better!

Comments about RadioShack AM/FM/Weather Tabletop Radio: This radio is kept in my bathroom and is used just about daily whenever I shower. Here in NY the radio gets great reception "antenna is down" and produces clear quality sound, that's good enough to fill my upstairs. Pros

Comments about RadioShack AM/FM/Weather Tabletop Radio: Went into the store to look at the "extended range" model radio and was extremely disappointed when I could only tune in one FM station. By comparison, this radio tuned in at least a dozen FM stations, and clearly too, not just part way. Since they both are AM FM Weather, and both operate on AC or batteries, it was an easy choice. I just cannot imagine why they advertise this one as a "tabletop" radio, and the one that has terrible reception as "extended range"?

Comments about RadioShack AM/FM/Weather Tabletop Radio: Performance Reality, Effortless Reception, Rugged Build, Tuning Precision, Lightweight Design, and Premium Sound. The Radio Shack tabletop radio is able to deliver on all of these attributes in a respectable and power efficient portable audio product. The Radio Shack AM/FM/Weather Band Radio, Model: 12-889, is a solid performer for traditional reception of the analog broadcast spectrum. This lightweight analog tuning radio is outfitted with a rugged aluminum/black rubberized exterior finish and water-resistant construction. This radio looks handsome and it definitely has performance to match. The portable's rugged housing makes it an exemplary choice for providing quality audio in the garage during a complex auto repair procedure. The Radio Shack tabletop radio is also a terrific entertainment choice for most other tough operating environments where portable audio is required, and it can stand up to minor inclement weather events as well. This unit's formidable build quality also protects the radio from fallings objects and an occasional drop to the floor. This product's versatile carry handle is permanently housed in an upright position on top of the radio. This is a great structural design technique, because it adds to the aesthetic beauty of this item's appearance, eliminates the need to position and reposition the handle for transport of the unit, and prevents the handle from suffering damage while outdoors. The handle also features grooves so that you can hang the radio on a wall, if needed. AM reception performance is outstanding off this unit's internal ferrite-bar antenna. Adjacent channel interference is not a reality. It clearly gets in all of my favorite sports, talk, news, car repair, pet care, and up-to-date stock market/business oriented information programs on the AM band. AM DX reception is quite good after sunset with clear atmospheric conditions present. Weak signal AM reception is of acceptable quality for this product category. This unit offers a telescopic antenna that can only be extended vertically for competent FM and WB reception. Light rock, classic rock, oldies, classical, and jazz FM music stations offer great fidelity, high quality vocals, enhanced reproduction of percussion instruments, and they come in distortion-free. I am also able to receive a low power transmission college radio station at night with this radio. The built-in monaural speaker can reproduce subtle tones, talk, and music skillfully without sounding either dull or harsh. The speaker's depth and detail make this unit's audio output very enjoyable for an extended fatigue-free listening experience. The tabletop portable radio can play at significant volume levels as the volume control is turned up through most of its usable range. Weather band reception is the most challenging here, as I can only receive one station in my geographical location. The sound is low compared to the other two bands, but I am able to hear the latest forecast with a slight boost in volume level and extension of the telescopic antenna. The tuning knob is this radio's best feature. It has perfect size, ergonomic grip, and graceful feel to it in my hand. There is just a smoothness, solid grasp, and quality sturdy motion to the tuning knob when it is being turned to navigate to the next available station. The tuning knob easily locks in on any radio station. In my experience, the tuning knob's superb, steady, and accurate range of motion eliminates the possibility of station-drift once a strong signal is received. This Radio Shack 12-889 tabletop radio is a very decent portable audio product for outdoors at the beach, sitting poolside, at the park, on the boardwalk, in the office for a traffic update before the drive home, and indoors such as the kitchen or for must-listen late night sports talk radio after the big football game upset win. My particular radio does not demonstrate any noticeable flaws in broadcast AM/FM/WB reception, sound quality, sensitivity, and selectivity in its routine daily use. A 3.5mm earphone jack is located on the right hand side of the radio for private listening sessions at home. The radio's rear panel reveals a detachable battery compartment cover that provides the user with two alternative power sources. There is a hardwired AC power cord for non-mobile operation, and DC terminals for four optional C batteries. My preference is for portable use, and I use batteries almost exclusively. The batteries can power this radio reliably for months on one set of batteries. The Radio Shack 12-889 tabletop portable radio provides the following feature set: analog tuner, red tuning indicator, AM/FM/WB reception, dial scale, telescopic FM/WB antenna, built-in AM ferrite-bar antenna, AM frequency range: 530-1710 kHz, FM frequency range: 88-108 MHz, WB frequency range: 162.40-162.55 MHz, WB channel 1-7 reception, red LED power/tuning indicator, water-resistant design, tuning knob, power/volume control, monaural speaker, 3-band selection switch, 3.5mm earphone jack, fixed position carry handle, carry handle grooves, detachable battery compartment cover, hardwired AC power cord (120V AC, 60Hz, 35mA), 4 C battery operation, aluminum/black exterior finish, white lettering on front panel, and operating instructions. The product dimensions are as follows: Height: 8.22 inches, Width: 2.55 inches, Length: 10.55 inches, and Weight: 3 lbs. This Radio Shack tabletop radio includes a 90 day parts and labor limited manufacturer warranty. The Radio Shack, Model: 12-889, Tabletop 3-Band Portable Radio is an ideal solution for any radio or outdoor enthusiast that requires a portable, reliable, and quality audio experience. Good Luck. Enjoy.
