Comments about RadioShack Caller ID/Call-Waiting ID with Backlit Display:

This is probably a pretty good Caller I.D., unfortunately I have found through trial and error that this model can't be used with a phone that has ANY kind of caller i.d. built in. I 1st wanted to use it with a call waiting/caller id phone for the flashing light it has when someone has called the way I used my old Bell caller id but it would cause the second caller to automatically break through the first call. So I tried it with my back up non-electric phone that only has caller id to enhance the set up to include call waiting caller id. No such luck. This time the second call caused the first call to disconnect. Oh, well.

I am so glad Radio Shack still has this Caller ID. I plan to buy a couple more of them as back ups since they don't last forever. Highly recommend them. I have one for years, and want to go to Radio Shack to buy a few more in case they stop making them.

I like to use my old telephone so this gives me the caller ID I want. It's still hard to see display in dark even with the back light due to the soft LCD display and is kind of on the expensive price. It don't let you delete single calls but only deletes all the calls at once.

Comments about RadioShack Caller ID/Call-Waiting ID with Backlit Display:

Oops! I wrote the previous glowing review, and don't know how to delete it. While I was on the phone with one call and another person called in their call would just break through without me doing anything. I called the store I bought it from and asked them for a tech support number for Radio Shack products, they put me on hold for several minutes-twice-and then after chatting with a friend at the counter for several minutes finally gave me an 800 number. I called the number and after going through several prompts got a recorded message saying they don't do tech support for Radio Shack products--call the store!!! Of course, I already knew that no one at the store would know anything, but for laughs I called anyway. The guy said, "I don't know what's wrong with it, why don't you look it up online!" So, the product is useless, Radio Shack employees don't know technical information for their own products, and I am back on the hunt for a Caller ID that works.

Comments about RadioShack Caller ID/Call-Waiting ID with Backlit Display:

Actually, I use this equally for business and personal. I don't know why this model got bad reviews. I think a lot of people didn't read the manual. It's a little larger than the couple of CID's I've had in the past which gives it a very sturdy feel, and it looks good. A lot of comments about the screen being hard to read! Apparently people don't realize you just press any key on the pad and the screen lights up like Christmas! I used to have to use a flashlight for my old one. And it's got an easy to read big screen. It holds 99 calls. Last one only 50. I didn't have any more plugs to spare at my desk, so I don't mind the 4 AA batteries. And the best thing of all for me: it flashes on every call, not just when a message is left. (Half the people today don't leave messages.) So I always know when someone has called even if I had the ringer off (at night) or was running the vacuum, etc...I'm so happy I found this one. It is far superior to the other one's I was looking at.

I used the suggestions from others on this site and soldered in a 6v power supply. I used an old power supply from an AT&T telephone dock. Just make sure you have the polarity right when connecting the power supply to the unit. Use a DC voltmeter and it's pretty easy. If you use this unit with batteries, get ready to buy a lot of batteries, because it uses them up very fast.

Its fine if you take it apart, and solder in to the battery wires inside the unit, a seaparate 6 volts DC power supply, then you never need to use batteries again
