Comments about RadioShack 22-Range Pocket Digital Multimeter:

I turned down the offered extended warranty because ordinarily they're a sham. In this case it's apparently required. 2 days in the pressure on the circuit board became so great that it constantly reset at startup (it thought I was holding down a button at startup) the only way to get it to straighten out was to gently knock it on a table. The next day, it failed to start entirely. Radio Shack, claimed that the only warranty coverage available was the extended one that I didn't purchase and apparently I had no protection against manufacturer defect. This thing is garbage. Don't buy it.

Comments about RadioShack 22-Range Pocket Digital Multimeter:

I bought this device in November and I was very exited to use it. I've had it for a couple of months now and it has done an amazing job so far. The things that I wasn't so happy about is the maximum current allowed most of my created circuits were over that amount and I did not want to blow the fuse. Also the continuity buzzer had a bit of a delay but that wasn't really a problem for me. Now the multimeter just wont turn on so now i might get a more professional multimeter

Comments about RadioShack 22-Range Pocket Digital Multimeter:

I like repairing vintage computers and needed a small multimeter that didn't break the bank. This little gadget is great for casual metering: it's accurate and does what it says on the tin. I love how small it is, yet really powerful with a good range. The test leads are tiny and you can comfortably take measurements on plugs holding both of them close together in one hand, while holding what you're measuring in the other (larger test leads often get in the way here).

I love the auto detection of AC/DC voltage and the fact that you select metering modes with silent rubber buttons rather than a bulky loud dial. This often gets in the way of speedy voltage checks with larger / more expensive meters.

The only thing I dislike about the meter is how it's constructed: the case is made of rubberized plastic (feels nice) but it's only 1mm longer than the leads its supposed to hold. This means you're badly bending the ends at 90 degrees to fit them in, which will damage your leads over time - as stated in many other reviews. My case broke the first time I opened it: the little tooth that holds the case shut snapped instantly.

Other than those two shortcomings, a great little meter for the money. By the way, the meter is no longer yellow - it's RadioShack grey now.

Seedy Fixerman Review is right on

Comments about RadioShack 22-Range Pocket Digital Multimeter:

Speedy Fixerman's review was right on target. This was my second purchase of this multitester. This one also went bad on me after two years of use. I like the meter because it's small and compact and fits into my tool bag very easily. I use it every day for all sorts of testing but the leads break off with frequent use. I've been successful in re-soldering the leads, but now it's giving me faulty readings (it's not the batteries) which I can't aford to take a chance on. I'll buy another one to take its place but I can only expect to get two years out of these meters, at best.

Comments about RadioShack 22-Range Pocket Digital Multimeter:

I have had many of these meters since they were first introduced. They usually last about 2 years for what I use them for. The leads break where they come out of the case from flexing. Other than that
they are pretty durable and very easy to use. Volts and ohms are auto ranging, even discerns between ac and dc and which polarity on dc. Pretty foolproof but has internal fuse if overloaded. Fits nicely in my toolbag.

Have used the device as necessary around the house for the last 7 years. Rugged and always reliable. Just installed my second set of batteries to use it for continuity tester on solenoid for furnace humidfier water switch. Worked great and like the audible tone on the continuity tester. Would recommend this for the casual user.

Comments about RadioShack 22-Range Pocket Digital Multimeter:

I read some of the other reviews on this device and was surprised. I've had much better luck with it.

I bought one of these back in the 90's and it worked great for a few years, then I lost it. I bought a second because I liked the first one so much. I keep mine in a tool box and it gets hit with screwdrivers and other stuff when in the box. Never had a problem with the first one or with this one. Ended up buying a third which I gave to my dad as a present.
I use mine about once a month for some kind of reason, with the auto-off feature I'm only on my second set of batteries. Continuity checker is working fine, as is the voltmeter and ohm meter.

                Great device.

I have had my DMM literally for years with no problem at all. Would have preferred that it use AA or AAA batteries but have only had to replace them once. I am formally trained in electronics, a hobbyist and also use it for work around the house. Handy, compact, and was a good value for me.
