              Comments about RadioShack® 1/4"" Mono Right-Angle Audio Plug (2-Pack):

If you need instructions on how to solder this up, you shouldn't be handling a soldering iron at all because you're obviously an idiot. This plug isn't very heavy duty and I don't think the price is very good but they work in a pinch when you need to make or repair a cable.

                Comments about RadioShack® 1/4"" Mono Right-Angle Audio Plug (2-Pack):

I've read other reviews. I agree there are no soldering instructions. Center goes to the center tap. For the ground, you do NOT have to solder it, it's next to impossible. The braid makes contact by being clamped by the shell which makes it simple to use. If you have a 2-conductor wire instead of a braid you'll be in trouble, but why on earth would you use something like that for an audio application?

Using a typical guitar coax cable (nothing too FAT, just standard guitar cord), strip insulation off the outer braid and wrap the braid around the inner insulation. Push back a little away from the center wire at the solder joint. Solder the center wire. Clamp the shell together with the screws. The shell just clamps onto the braid and holds outer insulator. Tighten screws and you're good to go.

They're a tad large but they're smaller than the older style of same connector. They're flat but wide.

                Comments about RadioShack® 1/4"" Mono Right-Angle Audio Plug (2-Pack):

Bought a few of these to use to make some guitar effects patch cables. While I did get them working right, and there isn't really any noticeable difference in sound quality compared to my other cables, it was a bit of an ordeal to get them soldered. The hot connection is simple enough, but is angled directly towards the center of the opening, meaning the ground wire has to be manipulated a bit more inconveniently than if it were at an angle like other plugs I've seen. Actually soldering the ground wire is an ordeal as well. The ground must be soldered (from as much as I could figure from the other reviews) to the body of the plug, underneath the insulation (which doesn't move very readily), and so almost the entire plug needs to be hot enough to melt the solder in order for anything to actually stick where needed. So it took a while to actually get the thing connected, but now that I've got it done, it does its job fine. Theoretically I won't be putting too much stress on the cable as it just sits in the pedal board, but I don't feel too confident about it lasting too terribly long. I'd recommend looking elsewhere for right angle plugs.

                  Comments about RadioShack® 1/4"" Mono Right-Angle Audio Plug (2-Pack):

I normally don't purchase my audio connectors from Radio Shack, but I bought a pair of these to put together a pedal patch cable anyways, since I was already at my local Shack to pick up a few electronic components, and so I figured I'd give them a try. They are very thin and lightweight connectors - thinner than Switchcrafts.

The first big negative is the lack of a solder tab for the ground, which pretty much makes these plugs useless. I thought hard about just bagging these back up and returning them. Though, I've got an 80-watt iron and spent some time grinding a good spot to soldering the ground. Even with the 80-watt iron, it was nearly impossible to get the area hot enough to take the solder - very frustrating and it certainly doesn't inspire much confidence that the joint will hold over time.

When I finally did tighten down the covers on the plugs on a standard-size instrument cable, the chassis just bent under the stress of the cable width, so you get gaps along the sides and a weak grip on the cable to boot. The metal of the actual connector is really cheap feeling. I didn't notice much, if any, degradation of sound, though I'm not confident at all that this plug will last. I'll likely end up chucking it once I get my hands on better connectors.

Don't waste your time on these.
