Comments about RadioShack Phono (RCA-Type) Plug (2-Pack):

This connector is fine, I have been using them for years. The center pin is already tinned, so soldering is easy. Of course you need to use REAL solder (63/37) with an active flux. Ersin Multicore is by far the best, but Kester 60/40 "44" resin works ok as well.

Comments about RadioShack Phono (RCA-Type) Plug (2-Pack):

I picked these up in a local Radio Shack store because I was in a hurry to fix a broken plug on my 40+ year old Technics turntable; as others have said you need to know what you're doing when soldering these plugs, they're not for newbie soldering people unless you have somebody who knows what they're doing helping you... TIN TIN TIN and no I'm not talking about a dog.

One star off for no strain relief - what's up with that, Radio Shack?

One star off for no color coding - how do you know which is red and which is white/black? (I used a couple of Sharpie markers to color them.)

The price is ok for picking them up locally, but you can order gold-plated plugs with strain reliefs for around the same price (or less) online.

Looks perfect but performance is suspect

Comments about RadioShack Phono (RCA-Type) Plug (2-Pack):

As others have stated, the center pin connection is surprisingly resistant to solder. In fact, I got a few solder bridges between the center and the edge before I got the center well-tinned.

So although it looks like a perfect screw-together metal RCA plug, they seem to have made it out of the wrong materials.

Still, it is usable for what it does.

Comments about RadioShack Phono (RCA-Type) Plug (2-Pack):

Nearly all of the descriptions in previous reviews are right. It has a small divot instead of a hollowed out center pin, but I think that's just fine.

I also agree with the reviewer who said "if you don't know how to solder these, you may not know how to solder". These were easy to solder, with a few prep steps.

                1. Tin the leads of the wires.
                2. Tin the contacts of the RCA plug.
                3. Solder the wires to the contacts.
                4. Crimp the strain relief.

My only real complaint was that the strain relieve was not quite a large as I would have wanted, but it's a small gripe.

Fine product. There are better ones out there on the internet for similar pricing, but these are local.

Comments about RadioShack Phono (RCA-Type) Plug (2-Pack):

This is one of the cheapest products that I have ever tried to use. The center terminal is not hollowed out allowing professional soldering. Rather, there is a shallow divot. When the metal is heated enough for solder to flow, the cheap plastic melts.

Plating prevents solder from sticking, only handles light gage wire/center pin recess too small. There are better choises elsewere
