Comments about RadioShack 1/8" Stereo Phone Plug (2-Pack):

I read a lot of bad reviews so I was worried about this. I tested the connections with an ohm meter before soldered it and they were all good. Tinned the wire and terminals before soldering them and it went together fine. I did have to use some heat shrink tubbing to keep the wire tight in the strain relife, but otherwise it worked perfectly. Saved me $30 on new headphones.

Comments about RadioShack 1/8" Stereo Phone Plug (2-Pack):

I needed a jack to repair my earbuds as it's original jack no longer received a connection.
I got this jack and got ready to wire it up, then I didn't know which wire went to what pins. Luckily the employees at the store I bought it from knew and gave me the advice I needed when I called as there were no instructions that came with this.

On both of the jacks I used I got the right earbud to work fine no problems, but the left earbud never had a good connection I would get static sound no matter what I did. Also when the plastic melted on the first jack, the right earbud, which was fine, got very faint, yet the solder connection was good as there was great sound before.

Also the plastic melted quickly, faster than hot glue! and the left earbud pin fell out of the first jack I used.

For the other jack it just refused to get a good connection! The right had sound but had it's fair share of static and the left wouldn't work at all.

This was designed by a bunch of idiots who have never used their own product. Who puts low temp plastic on something that's going to be soldered on? This design flaw caused many problems. Also they should have had a better connections to the pin, especially for left sound as it never had a worthy connection.

            What a piece of junk.

Comments about RadioShack 1/8" Stereo Phone Plug (2-Pack):

Original Bose Quiet Comfort plug pulled apart from the wire. Solder 3 wires. Green to L, Red to R, Copper to center Ground. I used fingernail clippers to trim the wires and fibers. Needlenose pliers necessary, smaller is better. Earlier comment regarding small solder and iron is good advice. Also used ViseGrip to hold plug vertical while I worked. After crimping the ground flange to the insulated wire to hold in place, I also tied an overhand knot to rest inside the black cover and take stress off the crimp. It works and seems stout enough. Ergonomically better than original. Sound quality seems as good as original.

Problem is problematic connection from the connector tip to its solder lug. Amazing such a problem could exist. These things have only been made for like 50 years, and it ain't rocked science. The way around it is to solder the lug to the tip post manually. Takes a lot of heat.

Soldered the tip pin directly to it's terminal to finally use.
Soldering difficult without cleaning and scapeing of ALL terminal surfaces for reasonable solder adhesion.
Recommend additionally, use of solder paste be applied for better solder flow on ALL terminals after cleaning terminals as indicated above.

I have now gone through six of these plugs with the following results:

Two - inconsistant connection between tip and its solder terminal due to lack of contact at the rear of shaft

Two - terminal for the ring rotates to touch the shaft when you screw the cover back on to the plug.

These things cut out due to the middle solder connector, which seems loosely connected to the actual plug. I bought two sets at the same time, and they BOTH had this exact same problem. Go for the gold ones instead.

I bought this to replace the plug on my headphone, which had a broken wire. Soldering and assembly went smooth, then when I plug it into an iPod, the left side kept going out whenever I pushed the plug in too deep. The iPod uses a 3.5mm jack, and this is 1/8" which is slightly smaller than the 3.5mm. This won't fit in almost all audio jacks from out of the country, It's too small.
