Comments about RadioShack Multipurpose Nylon Binding Posts (4-Pack):

It should be pretty obvious that one has to provide insulation if these are to be installed to a metal surface. The .25" grommets in Radio Shack Catalog #: 64-3025 are ideal for that. Just drill a .2" hole, squeeze in the grommet and install the post. See included images of these posts being used in dummy load equipment.

Comments about RadioShack Multipurpose Nylon Binding Posts (4-Pack):

I'll save the "very much not insulated" complaints because other people have noted that before, and if you use a plastic box you can get away with it. No, my big complaint is that if you try to use the tiny, tiny nuts to attach the post to your panel, after a few seconds the threads completely strip, leaving you with a floppy binding post. It also leaves a ton of metal dust everywhere, increasing the risk of shorts and arcing.

Comments about RadioShack Multipurpose Nylon Binding Posts (4-Pack):

Sadly, I did not read the reviews before buying this product. I too am making an ATX lab bench supply, and after many hours of soldering, I turned the unit on to find that every single binding post was shorting out with the grounded aluminum project box. I should have known better, but the description did say "insulated"... I am sure these would be great for any plastic or wooden enclosure, but as for a metal enclosure, they are totally useless, unless you enjoy having electrified project boxes. I guess there is a reason why the nicer ones cost three or four dollars a piece. I really could have saved a lot of time, money and solder by reading these reviews first.

More like, "Insulated-if-you-don't-mount-on-metal Binding Posts" -- these are fine if you're mounting them on a project box or audio speaker box, but NOT for mounting on the metal case of an old ATX power supply ... the threads, nuts and post itself are all one piece of metal.

Comments about RadioShack Multipurpose Nylon Binding Posts (4-Pack):

Bought this package in a corporate owned store. Package said "Banana Jack Insulated Binding Posts." Not only are they not insulated, there is no way to insulate them if mounted through a metal panel. Only possible use is on a plastic panel. I bought these specifically because they were supposedly insulated.

Comments about RadioShack Multipurpose Nylon Binding Posts (4-Pack):

As other reviewers mentioned, these are NOT insulated, as the product title says.

You can expect to put your banana plug at very best about half way in. The metal sleeve is only 0.33-inch deep.

Even if the nuts are properly tightened, you're not going to be able to loosen the knob - you'll just twist the whole post around in the mounting hole (NOT acceptable!) because there's no way it'll tighten to the panel as firmly as the knob tightens (even casually) to the binding post. The only way you can use these is if you invent a way to keep the post from turning.

Even if I had a way to mount these, I'm not sure I'd use them in even casual audio equipment, let alone any sort of electronic/test/power equipment. These claim 10A at 125VAC. I might trust them at half that current. The connections are pretty slim.

I hate being so negative, but I hate getting burned on a bad purchase - hope you won't. The only reason these aren't in the trash is that I hate throwing away unused merchandise.

Like another reviewer, I was planning on using these for a power supply. If you're mounting these in a platic chasis or box, they'll work great. If you're mounting them in a metal case (e.g. an adaptation of a PC Power supply), you need to drill an oversized hole, sandwitch the chasis between the two fiber washers, and hope like heck they don't shift. If they were to shift, it is likely that the threaded mounting post would make contact with the chasis. This mounting rod is the electrical contact. Not good. It would be better if the fiber washers had a "step" on them to keep them centered.

I would (will) not use these on a metal chasis. If I do use them (the price is right), I'll mount them in plastic, and mout the plastic to a cutout in the metal chasis, or use a plastic enclosure.

Comments about RadioShack Multipurpose Nylon Binding Posts (4-Pack):

I'm building my own bench (lab) power supply and was looking for something that could offer versatility in making connections. I bought a Pkg. of 4 "Banana Jack Insulated Binding Posts" (#274-661) only to find out the the insulation was a couple of washers made out of who knows what. The binding post extends through these discs so I'm not very confident in the insulation. These are great since my enclosure is shallow but I think either the packaging is misleading or the quality is very low-end. I also bought the Pkg of 2 (#274-662) which are a longer design with a much better insulation created by a plastic sheath that is threaded.
