Product Summary

Its time to split.

Use this VHF/UHF gold-plated splitter-combiner to divide a signal to feed two devices, such as TV, VCR or PVR (personal video recorder). Or, combine signals for transmission on a single cable. Gold plating enhances performance by reducing signal loss and interference. RadioShack GOLD SERIES connectors are designed to enhance the performance of your audio and video components by reducing signal loss and interference. Low-capacitance connectors deliver the most dynamic, distortion-free signals your system can provide. Pure 24-karat gold plating is applied to all contacts using advanced plating technology. The gold plating reduces corrosion, substantially reduces signal loss and insures maximum performance.

    Comments about RadioShack VHF/UHF Gold-Plated Splitter-Combiner:

Used this to combine signals from a custom DB8 UHF antenna and a folded dipole VHF element, got better signal from a high quality splitter run "backward" this "combiner" appears to attenuate the signals as it brings them together.

    Comments about RadioShack VHF/UHF Gold-Plated Splitter-Combiner:

This splitter works great if all your inputs are evenly split between VHF and UHF. I needed to replace it with the 2-way hybrid splitter 15-1234 when one of our local channels went to a digital signal in the VHF range. This splitter won't pass UHF signals on the VHF side, and vice versa, which 15-1234 does do.

    Comments about RadioShack VHF/UHF Gold-Plated Splitter-Combiner:

This device, 15-2586, as several other reviewers have stated, is for a VERY SPECIFIC PURPOSE. While it "looks" like a regular splitter, it is not and should not be used for that purpose. It is intended SOLELY to either separate or to combine (it is a reciprocal device) two ranges of channels: VHF (below 300 MHz and UHF (above 350 MHZ).

A sample of this device was lab tested and found to have the following attributes:

Rejection 54-300 MHz greater than 35 dB
Rejection 470-1000 MHz greater than 32 db
Insertion loss 54-220 MHz less than 0.5 dB
Insertion loss 470-1000 less than 1.2 dB (average .75)

This device will pass DC power on the UHF port.

The most typical application for this device is to combine separate UHF and VHF antennas.

It is NOT to be used for the following:

Combining antenna and cable or satellite signals.
Splitting antenna, cable, or satellite signals to multiple TV sets or receivers.

In all, a technically good device. Unfortunately, the specifications and descriptions on this web site were written by someone without the technical expertise to explain this device. Hopefully, this will help!

You will pay for the convenience of buying this in a store, but the device is good for its intended purpose.

"The only useful purpose I can find for this is to combine UHF and VHF antenna inputs into one coax, but not for combining cable and antenna."

Yes, but that's exactly what I need here in the NYC area, to combine a VHF antenna (DTV channels 7, 11, 13) with a UHF antenna for the rest of the DTV signals here. An ordinary splitter causes teh antennas to interfere with each other, ruining reception on some channels.

Connected Dish DVRA-tv2 via coax cable to UHF on Combiner, connected Dish DVRB-tv2/RCA Video & Audio to Modulator (set to ch-3) via coax cable to VHF on combiner. Connected combiner to tv antenna input. Now I watch DVRA on channel 60 and DVRB on channel 3.End of problem. A separate Dish remote is required for each DVR unit.

                      Comments about RadioShack VHF/UHF Gold-Plated Splitter-Combiner:

We had a problem with our home coax system and the introduction of HDTV. The HDTV uses HDMI for the signal from the VCR/DVD player. The HDTV has a coax connection for over the air signals. To use the VCR with other TVs, all analog, we used the VHF/UHF Gold-Plated Splitter-Combiner behind the TV and VCR/DVD player to combine the antenna signal with the VCR/DVD output signal. Then, the analog TVs in the rest of the house could be used to view movies played from the VCR/DVD player, and still use the antenna for UHF signals. A second VHF/UHF Gold-Plated Splitter-Combiner for connecting the UHF antenna to the system in a remote location. It seriously limited the UHF on the VHF line. A splitter worked well in that location, and the signal from the VCR/DVD player on Channel 3, still made it through the splitter to other TVs.

There is simply a specialized piece of hardware and you have to know when to use it. If you want terrestrial digital TV and need to boost just the VHF or UHF signals you must have one of these. Adding a booster to the entire feed can cause all sorts of problems with cancellation and multipath, when it is usually just on or the other band that needs it.
