It works very well with cordless and corded phones. It does NOT work well at all with cellphones. (The audio was barely heard and RF interference overwhelming.) This little device will serve me well with unwanted telemarketers and records of conversations. Just place the suction cup on the back of the handset, near the top, and plug into your recorder.

Comments about RadioShack Recorder Telephone Pickup: This adapter plugs right into the hole marked 'adapter' on a cheap tape recorder while the suction cup stays on the back of the ear part of the phone. (I have hidden my 'recording phone' under a desk, out of sight, in another room). Every time a telephone receiver is picked up to dial out or answer a call...the tape recorder starts taping. It is activated by someone using the phone. You will NOT miss any phone conversations unless your cassette tapes are too short. Purchase a cheap recorder, long running cassettes, new batteries/plug, and you are going to hear everything, just like you are listening from another phone. You'll LOVE IT, I use this device to find out what others are doing behind my back. LOVE IT!

Comments about RadioShack Recorder Telephone Pickup: This pickup works well with some phone handets, not quite as well with others. So experiment first before you're on a critical call to see if it'll work with your phone. Also, you'll have to try it in different positions on the handset to see which works best. It'll work with some cell phones, too, by sticking the suction cup directly on the screen, but with others, all you'll get will be EMF noise. It'll still work if you hold it against your cell phone's sound port.

Comments about RadioShack Recorder Telephone Pickup: Very good product and much bitter than the modern ones, also much sheeper...

Cons Best Uses Comments about RadioShack Recorder Telephone Pickup: I first purchased this device at Radio Shack more than twenty years ago. I finally wore the connection wires out this week. I have Parkinson's Disease and could not repair it myself. For the [$], I am buying two more. Should get me through the next forty years. I use it every day, year round. I notify those I am speaking to that they are being recorded and have utilized the recordings in numerous court cases as admissible evidence. I rated this priceless device according to its durability, ease of use and reliability, "*****"! Well worth your investment.
Pros
Cons Best Uses Comments about RadioShack Recorder Telephone Pickup: I like this recorder because it's the old school way to go, this device really only works well with classic desk phones, like the one it is pictured with, or payphones... although some modern ones are too thick for the device to pick up sound decently.

Comments about RadioShack Recorder Telephone Pickup: I used this Telephone Pickup with my EMF circuit. The pickup coil detects electromagnetic fields. This coil is ideal for this type of application when low frequencies are amplified by an Opamp and fed into a comparator circuit. I cut off all but 3 inches of the wire and insert it into my circuit. This coil works very well for this application. A great pickup coil.

Comments about RadioShack Recorder Telephone Pickup: Works really well on my home phone. On my cell, it only picks up the incoming voice, but that's all. So, for home phone, it's awesome. For cell phones, not so good.
