It works WELL for dubbing to a Video Cam

Comments about RadioShack 6.5-Ft. Attenuating Dubbing Cord with 1/8"" Phone Plugs:

I bought this so as to be able to connect my sound board to my video camera. I first tried the Radio Shack 60db attenuating cord, but it wasn't enough. This one is 90db, which is a LOT, but it does the job.

Here's what I do: my sound board (for my band) also drives a headphone amplifier. From that I have 12 stereo outputs with their own volume controls for headphones. I rigged up a system, using all over-the-counter Radio Shack adaptors, plus 2 of these attenuating cables, which ultimately translated my high-volume 1/4 inch stereo output into a very low volume 1/8 inch steroe input, which I plug into my Video camera.

Note: Many consumer grade video cameras do not have external mic inputs. I bought my Canon specifically because it *does*. But it is a MIC input, *not* a line level input.

But with these cords and the proper adaptors, I now get a high-quality STEREO signal, straight off my sound board, into my consumer-grade video camera, allowing me to record hi-fi STEREO-sound video. It's very good. Almost like a DVD sound, but not quite.

The cords and adaptors are kind of a kludge for sure, and they end up "tying" my camera to the sound board, but I have extension headphone cords put together, so I have about 30 feet of cord, so I can move away from the sound board, which is next to the band, and video tape the band in beautiful stereo.

You could use two (2) for stereo. You must be able to understand audio levels and attenuation.

Comments about RadioShack 6.5-Ft. Attenuating Dubbing Cord with 1/8"" Phone Plugs:

For stereo use, you will have to fabricate one (until RS comes out with one) out of 2ea, 1/8" TRS (3 conductor stereo) phono plugs (RS cat#274-284), shielded cable, (cat#278-513) 2ea 100k-ohm (271-1131) and 2ea 100ohm (271-1108) resistors. The 100k ohm resistors go in series with the tips and rings. The 100ohm resistors shunt the tip and ring of one of the connectors to the sleve.

DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOU KNOW YOUR WAY AROUND A SOLDERING IRON!

I used this cable to patch my portable CD player into my 1968 Automatic Radio 8 track tape player in my 64 Pontiac..

I ran the 8 tracks old head leads into two mini jacks in the back of the tape player..

I have a the tape players speaker leads going into a Audiobaun amps low inputs..

The sound is fantastic!! Though a good 8 track tapes analog sound still sounds better...

Comments about RadioShack 6.5-Ft. Attenuating Dubbing Cord with 1/8"" Phone Plugs:

remember: attenuating means that it narrows the signal. Good for high line-out signals like sound cards. Might get too much loss if say using it to patch a MP3 player to an amp or something.

                              hope this helps someone!

This is a 4.7k series resistor shunted each side by a 10 ohm resistor. So the attenuation is about 27dB not the 90dB on the label. A 1 volt signal comes out a few mV. Both plugs have the 10 ohm shunt. I can't see any difference to tell which has the series resistor.
