It was great! I loved it. Someone absconded with it recently however, so I went back to Radio Shack and bought a new one this afternoon. With new batteries the new one "manufactured in China" is not much louder than normal voice. I don't know if its just a fluke. I'll return it, and maybe get another one that works.

Best Uses Comments about RadioShack 10-Watt Handheld Powerhorn with Detachable Microphone: Think twice before buying. Granted we run a 24/7 dispatch operation, but this product doesn't last past 2 months of use. We know - we are on our 2nd one. The casing falls apart, the wires short, etc...for [$] it should be built better.

Best Uses Comments about RadioShack 10-Watt Handheld Powerhorn with Detachable Microphone: Used at the annual golf tournament. Good under tent but sound lost in open air. The mic clip broke and no one at Radio Shack has ever heard of replacement parts for this item. I couldn't find anything on the web site.

Comments about RadioShack 10-Watt Handheld Powerhorn with Detachable Microphone: I'm a professional riding instructor and have used this horn for at least 8 years, nearly every day for a couple hours teaching riding in an indoor arena and outdoor arena. Used by announcer at horse shows for over 8 hours, battery still had plenty of life in it for another week or so of lessons. I have a soft voice, so this definitely enhanced my voice so I wouldn't have to shout instructions across the arena 100 plus feet. My neighbors a half mile away say they can hear me most of the time. Not every word, but know that I'm giving a lesson. Indoor I turn it down about half way, but outdoors I do have to turn it up all the way. A couple times I've left the microphone on and by the next day the batteries were dead. Occassionally if I don't close the lid on the battery compartment just right, the horn doesn't work. I just have to open and close it more firmly and TA DA, I'm in business again. I have even used it to call husband in from barn for dinner!(When he's forgotten his cell phone in the house) One draw back is you are attached to the horn with the mic, so you can't continue talking on it when moving around unless you hang it on your shoulder. It's served me well, but will be retiring it in favor of a new PA system with wireless headset, and a bit more wattage in the speaker.

Comments about RadioShack 10-Watt Handheld Powerhorn with Detachable Microphone: This is a very nice power horn for the money. If you don't abuse it, it will last a long time. It is not idiot proof. It is an electronic device with plastic pieces. Miss-treat it and it will break.

Comments about RadioShack 10-Watt Handheld Powerhorn with Detachable Microphone: after 3 hours of use it was melting, the glue had failed, and the back had popped off. Dont buy this.[@] is the way to go. 10 watts is nothing this is underpowered and overpriced. 12 watts for [$]
