Comments about RadioShack® Magnet-Mount CB Antenna with WX (Weather) Band:

I'm not sure why others complained of high SWRs. On top of my Jeep Cherokee SWR measured at just barely over 1 and remained near that over the range of 40 channels - the best of any antenna I've ever owned. It's not tunable. My antenna would not tighten as the other reviewers mentioned so I just peeled back the thin plastic covering on the bottom and had access to the bolt and tightened it right up. The base magnet is strong. Looks great. Great weather band reception. I have not tested the transmit range yet but reception was pretty good for such a short antenna.

Comments about RadioShack® Magnet-Mount CB Antenna with WX (Weather) Band:

I got this antenna free with the purchase of a CB and decided to try it out, over all its not very impressive, pretty cheap design, my homemade coax antenna works better. I cant complain since it was free but i will be purchasing a different antenna soon for my explorer, but until than ill use this and see how it holds up. If you are looking to buy an antenna, dont even think twice about this one, its not worth it, you can get much better for much cheaper.

          • Multiple Vehicles
          • Occasional Trips

Comments about RadioShack® Magnet-Mount CB Antenna with WX (Weather) Band:

I needed a cheap antenna on short notice, and this was my second choice (the first one I bought did not tune up on 11m and I returned it). The base is rather bulky, but the short whip makes it easier to swap vehicles or store in the trunk or back seat.

The packaging is very confusing and has several typographical errors, so I immediately put it on an SWR analyzer to see what was up. The antenna tunes better than 1.5:1 on channel 19, but it gets its best tune around channel 30 at 1.2:1. It also has a broad match on the 160 MHz weather band, but on the way to 160 I noticed a third very deep peak. I was very pleased to discover that this peak is centered exactly on the 2m calling frequency, unofficially making this a tri-band antenna!

I do not see how the antenna can be tuned, so that claim may be yet another typo, or I could be overlooking something. The case does not look very sturdy, but it will likely hold up to occasional road trips. Because of its compact size I do not expect record-breaking DX, but I am confident it will get me out there.

This antenna, like any mag-mount, needs an adequate ground plane to function; and will not work well on a motorcycle or go-kart, or glued to a fiberglass top.

Comments about RadioShack® Magnet-Mount CB Antenna with WX (Weather) Band:

Bought this for use on top of a SUV with a Midland 75-822. The good: weather band works great. The bad: as you put the antenna on the magnet mount the antenna will just keep on spinning, it will not tighten. Range was about a half a mile. Went to a CB shop, had the SWR checked even though you "don't tune" this antenna. It read about 3 on ch 20. Decided to try to tune this by turning the antenna as it spins anyway. SWR went down to 2 on 20, not even gonna talk about what it was at on 1 and 40. Returned it to the shack. The lady was nice about the return so I'll mention that. Bought the Wilson Little Wil and my SWR went down to 1.1 on 20 after I tuned it. Stay away from this product.

Comments about RadioShack® Magnet-Mount CB Antenna with WX (Weather) Band:

Well I have one on top of my 99 GMC Jimmy and works really well. The magnet is pretty strong so it stays in place. I've been going down the highway at around 80 MPH and it has not flew off yet. Me and my buddys tested to see how far I got with my baby antenna and I got out about 5 miles with trees and houses all around me. If you want something small for some good trailriding that isn't going to be taking out everything I would say get this. If you really wanna get out then don't. I manly use it for when we are trail riding so it suits me fine.

I have this antenna hooked up to my midland 75-822. I place it in the middle of my roof on my Blazer. I have a reading of 1.2 swr at this placement. Yeah its a bit ugly and not flexible. Though other than that it works well.
