    Buyer Beware!

      • Not Durable Construction

Comments about RadioShack Standard PL-259 UHF-Type Coaxial Connector (2-Pack):

The center conductor pulled out of the housing after using it for a short period. This option is good when you need to make a fast repair for field day but it may or may not be permanent. I had to buy a better connector in the end. I won't buy it again, instead just keep a stock of better connectors around.

I would probably have gone with a crimp connector instead for a pinch

Comments about RadioShack Standard PL-259 UHF-Type Coaxial Connector (2-Pack):

After receiving the pl-259 connector via mail I discovered they didn't include the reducer that screws into the back. I quess this is a cost thing. Its been a while since I purchased this connector. This was like buying a car and finding that I had to order the steering wheel seperately.

Comments about RadioShack Standard PL-259 UHF-Type Coaxial Connector (2-Pack):

Not a bad PL-259. The only drawback I found is that the dilectric material is really heat sensisitive... So solder lightly.

PL 259's, UG 175, and UG 176 are all items that should be standard stock on the shelves at all Radio Shack stores. They used to be what happened???

Ditto on the previous comment that this connector can be tricky and/or time consuming to install. But that statement is true of any connector installed on 50 Ohm coax cable.

Not only used with large coax (RG 8) for low loss but with adapter can be used with small coax (RG 59)for added strength. Requires good skills for soldering.

Works only with fat cable (RG-8)

Comments about RadioShack Standard PL-259 UHF-Type Coaxial Connector (2-Pack):

On some samples of this connector, the back end of the inner conductor is positioned such that it is virtually impossible to install it on a cable using a reducer, such as RG58, RG59, or RG8X cable, without shorting the center pin to the shield. Works fine with fat coax (e.g. full size RG8 or RG213). The center conductor is supposed to be recessed into the insulation on the inside of the connector, so that the shield won't short to it. 6 examples that I purchased from the local store were not recessed and so I couldn't prevent the shield from shorting to the pin.
