Very useful, used this to repair headphones that lost the right channel. The connection I have has "RadioShack" written on it and has a strain relief. The sound has improved because of this new connector as well. However I had trouble removing the enamel (to anyone that needs help a lighter works wonders) but eventually I got it working. The best part is that IF this happens again it can be reused in the future!

I bought this plug to repair my headphones, just like I have done in the past. It has held up for me just fine before, but not this time. I wired my headphones up, and plugged them in my computer speakers to test them. It worked fine, and I was going to pull it out and solder it up, but it wouldn't come out. The end fell apart inside my speaker. That left me without speakers, and without headphones. Luckily, I was able to take apart my speakers and rip out the broken pieces. At least my speakers work, but now the headphone jack in them is messed up, and I still don't have headphones. I will not be buying from Radioshack any time in the near future. I found a great alternative website (not mentioned) that I can order my parts from, and their products are way better.

When my 60 dollar headphones that I bought 3 months ago started shorting near the plug, I was dreading having to buy headphones again for the 5th time in a year. I heard about this product online reading a guide on how to remove the old plug, solder the wires on the radioshack 1/8" plug. Now my headphones are as good as new and the plug is stylish!

[...] I bought these to make my own shielded audio cables because the shield in Radio Shack cables is a joke, it's not even woven.I use RG-174 or RG-316 mini coax. It uses silver plated copper clad wire for the center conductor and a tight weave (%97)silver platted copper wire shield with PTFEdialectric.(It's 50 Ohms at RF frequencies but not at DC)

All metal, insulation doesn't melt while soldering like on the cheaper model. Easy screw-on access to terminals, slide-on inner guard tube, and spring-like extension to protect the contacts. Perhaps a bit bulkier than the traditional connector, but this thing will last.
