Comments about RadioShack Center-Loaded Telescoping Whip Antenna:

Great improvement over most stock antennas and can't beat the price. Excellent when you are monitoring a single HF or UHF band, great for air or rail monitoring. There are better choices for 800 MHz monitoring. Other aftermarket wide band antennas will do as well for general use, but the tun ability of this antenna by extending sections makes it a great tool to have.

Comments about RadioShack Center-Loaded Telescoping Whip Antenna:

When I bought this I thought it was going to be a big step up from my regular stock rubber ducky (PRO-106) antenna that came with my scanner, but after comparing the two for over a week or so Ive noticed no difference from the two (but maybe its just meant to be a replacement for your ducky antenna) I spent an extra couple dollars more for a roof mounted antenna from RS and that was the best buy...quality in reception and sound are like night and day...if you want the most out of your expensive scanner, roof mounted is the way to go...but this is a perfect replacement antenna if you lost your rubber ducky. Beware this thing is flimsy and caution is needed for its longevity. It is really easy to snap off the antenna if not careful...and its ugly but it does what its supposed to do. Hope this helps.

Comments about RadioShack Center-Loaded Telescoping Whip Antenna:

This is a great antenna for significantly increasing the range on a amateur radio handheld transceiver or just a handheld scanner - I have used it for both with great success. It is a little bulky (not usually a big deal for me) and this is my third antenna because my first two have broken. This antenna is great if you handle it gently and carefully.

Comments about RadioShack Center-Loaded Telescoping Whip Antenna:

Just like many other users, mine snapped at the base. Never got around to fully testing it, as it only lasted a week. The whip screws into the bnc base using a thread of about 3/16", but when it's extended 20", it's just not strong enough, and the slightest tap will break the thread. Very disappointed.

Comments about RadioShack Center-Loaded Telescoping Whip Antenna:

I somehow lost the stock duck antenna that came with my hand held scanner so I needed a replacement. I've tested it on all bands using the adjustment chart and it really does a good job of tuning to the desired band. The other reviews saying it's flimsy are incorrect. The antenna itself is made from a thick gauge steel, and yes the BNC connection is not super tight, but that's not the fault of the antenna, it's the nature of the BNC connector since it doesn't use threads. I've looked at other brands of scanner antennas and this one is a good deal for the price. Just keep in mind that it's not a rubber ducky so it's not going to behave like one, but it will out perform them.

              • With Uniden HP-1

Comments about RadioShack Center-Loaded Telescoping Whip Antenna:

There's been many complaints that the new Uniden HP-1 has poor reception in the important UHF and Aviation reception areas. That's true using the supplied antenna. However, once you attach this RS antenna, the HP-1 spings to life on all frequentcies. For example, from, my apartment in Port Orange, Fl, I can now receive air/ground traffic from Jacksonville 90 miles away! UHF traffic now comes in loud and free from static. For it's low cost, this RS antenna is a must-have for Uniden HP-1 users.
