Comments about RadioShack® Economy 4-Ft. Ground Rod:

Use an 8 foot ground rod and #6 wire to breaker box for a "To Code" electrical ground.
THREE of these 4 foot ground rods in a 6 foot triangle, connected by solid copper plumber tape (NOT BRAID, contrary to popular belief, braided copper or braided plated copper is NOT a good RF conductor for lengths longer than a few feet) will make a decent RF GROUND for Ham Radio or CB antenna use in low lightening threat areas.
DO NOT USE WIRE TO CONNECT GROUND ROD TO EQUIPMENT. Keep lengths as short as possible.
The "connector" on this rod is LOUSY. Use TWO
small hose auto type hose clamps to connect your conductor to the rod. Waterproof this connection as to prevent corrosion.

Comments about RadioShack® Economy 4-Ft. Ground Rod:

If you do not want the hassle of an 8 foot rod, use 2 four foot rods, installed approx 4 feet apart and daisy chained with braided copper. Works as well as one 8 foot rod.

Wanted to assure the safety of my antenna. Antenna is on the opposite side of the house from my electric service, so a separate ground was more cost effective than running 10ga wire all the way around the house.

Comments about RadioShack® Economy 4-Ft. Ground Rod:

The other reviewers pointed out that this an ilegal grounding rod and so on. It's only 4' long instead of at least 8 and it's thin. Therefore it is insufficient for use as a grounding rod. For your house, that is.
The use of these rods is common in antenna or dish installs. It is only needed to get rid of static electricity buildup. And that it will do.
Use it in conjunction with a grounding block and #6 solid wire and you'll be fine.
SHop in the store. Otherwise order online for half price somewhere else.

Do it right the first time for the same money. This ground rod is a violation of the NATIONAL ELECTRIC CODE and UNSAFE!!!! Go to [...] and buy an 8 ft. min ground rod for less $$$/ Tap it in to the earth and attach a # 6 bare wire to it with a proper connector. It costs no more to be safe....maybe less. Absolutely less if you factor in injuries or a fire in your house. I am an electrician for a living. Please do not use this rod.

This so called grounding rod is NOT effective and is NOT legal in most municipalities. Get at least one 8 foot rod, some #6 gauge solid copper wire and do it right! If you aren't familiar with local electrical codes, hire an electrician or someone who is!

OK for limited Ground requirements. I'd recommend 8' to 10' of 1/2" or 5/8" ground rod available at local hardware or electrical suppliers.
