After calling the 92057 store the assistant assured me the computer showed they had 4 sets in stock.... great, right? WRONG - arriving at said store, this item was NOWHERE to be found in the entire store - what sort of Mickey Mouse inventory system are these turkeys running? Totally wasted trip had it not been for [@]hardware nearby that carried banana plugs for a few cents more, but at least they had them!!

Comments about RadioShack Solderless Banana plugs:

Used this set of one red and one black banana plug (male) to replace plugs on my RadioShack multimeter test leads. The instruction diagram (scanned and attached) is not clear, but actual installation is fast.Strip your red test lead or positive speaker wire lead so that about 5mm of bare wire is exposed.Unscrew the red plastic handle.Unscrew the collar, or ferrule on the plug and set it aside. Now thread your wire through the handle.Slide the wire into the hollow end of the plug until the bare wire pokes out through the hole in the side.Bend the bare wire so it wraps around the plug.Screw on the collar to hold the wire in place.Screw on the plastic handle.Repeat for the black banana plug. For thicker wire you might want to simply solder the bare wire into the plug end. Sure does not seem like this would hold 18 gage stranded wire.It did work perfectly for quickly repairing my test leads. Not all that well-made for the price, for instance these do not have the standard banana plug bulge. They are straight-sided and have a cross shaped slit when viewed from above. There is no strain relief, and the plug does not have the classic banana plug seating chamfer near the base. But the convenience of having these available locally at nearly any RadioShack is enormous.

Comments about RadioShack Solderless Banana plugs:

I can't tell you how well they work, because I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do with them. The instructions say "Slip the wire through the handle, then thread it through the center plug, folding it back from the hole in the side of the plug".

"Folding it back from the hole in the side of the plug"? What does that mean? I can thread my speaker wire through the center plug just fine, but it certainly doesn't pop out the tiny hole on the side, and failing that I have no idea how I am supposed to secure the wire. I wish I could figure this out, but I guess I'm returning the items tomorrow and trying another kind...
