Comments about RadioShack Super Speed 9-18VDC Hobby Motor: No information on line as to its electrical caractoristics other than it is 9-18 volts. (I am intentionally leaving any misspellings as this page seems incapable of using Firefox's spellcheck). The only information on the spec sheet is that the body is plastic. That is incorrect as the motor has a steel shell with a plastic base. The Radio Shack web site seems to have problems with accuracy and lack of data anyway. One time I looked up transformers and found only the primary voltages listed. I figure they left the input of specs up to someone electrically illiterate who figured if the voltage was secondary, it most not be important enough to list. Also, one reviewer noted the lack of readily available mounting screws.

Comments about RadioShack Super Speed 9-18VDC Hobby Motor: This is a great motor! It has good torque. It seems to perform better with more amperage. I bought two for a homemade rc boat. They work well. I ran them on a 9.6v battery pack. The highest voltage I ever ran it on was 12vdc 300mAh. They seem to stay pretty cool. The only problem with it is that they drain batteries quickly. It is overall a great motor!

Cons Best Uses Comments about RadioShack Super Speed 9-18VDC Hobby Motor: My sister's water softener wasn't working in her new house so my brother-in-law and I disassembled it to find the culprit. The valve's geared electric motor was corroded and rusted solid. The motor and gearbox were a one piece unit, but a vice and some muscle separated the two. The plastic gearbox survived with minor cracks. I found this motor which is an IDENTICAL size match. Even the mounting screws from the other motor fit this and aligned perfectly. The only problem I'm facing is stepping the 24V source down to the 12-18V within the 1.98A it requires. I'm not an electrical professional so this is proving challenging but educational for me. But this motor was a great find!!

Comments about RadioShack Super Speed 9-18VDC Hobby Motor: I'm using these motors to build a vandegraff generator and I must say they are outstanding! quiet and powerful I can get 4000 feet per second on my belt this motor is really worth the price

Cons Best Uses Comments about RadioShack Super Speed 9-18VDC Hobby Motor: I originally bought this motor for a small hand-powered crank generator, which didn't exactly work the way that I wanted it to, so I took it out and am now using it to discharge my Li-Po (lithium polymer, the 2nd most dangerous battery in the world) battery packs for my hobby-grade helicopter. I have been running it at about 12 volts consistently for about 2 hours now, it's barely hot to the touch and is discharging my batteries perfectly! I paired it up with a simple Radio Shack SPST switch, also, and I can turn my discharger on/off by the flip of a switch. And this can be run for more than 2 hours on a single battery? Great efficiency.

Best Uses Comments about RadioShack Super Speed 9-18VDC Hobby Motor: I used this product for an R.O.V. underwater project and the motors work great. THERE IS NO AMP RATING FOR THE MOTOR! I don't know what kind of fuse to put, how many amps to feed it, and a few other problems. for everyday use, the motor is great. for my project, though, i require a fuse and don't know what the amp ratings are for the fuse.
