With a little careful machining, you can remove all of the internal battery stuff (springs, fins, etc...), and you will have yourself a little 2.5 x 1 x 5/8" project with a small (.15" sq) hole where the wires used to be. Not the recommended use, but it does a great job if you're willing to be creative.

Comments about RadioShack Enclosed "AAA" Battery Holder: I have used this product several times, and it works very well! The case protects the battery and can be used for almost any small hobby project. The only con i can think of is that the case is bulky, and doesn't fit in some circuits.
