Built a +15V -15V power supply to power an old Audio Alchemy DAC in the Box. A couple of caps, two voltage regulators, a case, a switch, a fuse and I was in business. I made a power supply that retails for over $150 for a tad less than $40. I wish Radio Shack would sell more DIY electronic components. Toroidial transformers would be nice!

Works as advertised. The reviewer who says "it's really 12.6" doesn't understand what "center tapped" means. From each yellow to black is 12.6, from yellow to yellot is 25.2

Since this is a typical part, there was nothing special nor poor about it other than I think the packaging was poor. It would also have been nice to have a little more tech info in the documentation, but it was fine for my needs in this application.

Used this transformer along with a dimmer switch to control amps output for a foam cutting project. It worked fine and has the right output, unlike another transformer I had tried.

This is supposed to be a 25.2 V CT transformer, but on the back of the package is says from yellow to black is 12.6v/13V. The black wire is the center tap not the yellow wire. This should be advertised as a 13V CT transformer.

Excellent all purpose transformer if you don't expect too much. I have used about ten of these over the last five years in various audio projects and it works well. I'd like a data sheet included with the product, but otherwise it's a great buy for hobbyist projects. Can use two in parallel for higher voltage output, don't run at maximum amperage.

Here are the specs once again:

SPECIFICATIONS:
Input 120VAC 60HZ
Output (load) 25.2VAC C.T. @ 2A
Output (no load) 27.7VAC
Current (load) 760mA max
Current (no load) 140mA max

The 2A current spec is max output current at 25.2 volts AC (which is 50.4 Watts). 760mA is the full load input current at 120 volts AC (which is 91.2 Watts). So at full capacity, about 91W in, about 50W out. Evidently the remainder of the power becomes heat, which is consistent with other reviewers' reports (40-41W will warm up pretty fast and pretty hot). As long as it's not operated at its max load constantly, it should do fine - a generic design rule of thumb is to design up to 80% of max capacity.

4.5 stars.

Excellent quality transformer that I have used in my custom laboratory test fixtures connected to AC mains 24 hours 7 days a week. Five years later and not one problem or failure with these RS transformers. No exotic power surge protector either.

Output voltage will dip as you reach maximum load. But if using a full wave rectifier and proper ripple capacitors; RMS power output (my own experience) is as advertised.

These transformers seem to incorporate a moderate form of impedance protection to resist damage from overload and power surges. This is my suspicion of the slight drop in peak output voltage at maximum rating people are reporting.

But the end result is a more robust transformer capable of surviving greater amounts of abuse.

Being a part designed for non OEM application and in the hands of many the experimentor where it is used in alternative ways; The "soft" feature of this transformer is to be commended.

Able to survive power surges and accidental short circuit loads without external fuse protection quite admirably.

My only complaint are the chassis mounting tabs being somewhat flimsy. Use fender washers with your bolts to reinforce the mounting tabs if in equipment the transformer is installed in gets beat about.

Five stars for reliability! Four stars because it needs a heavier duty mounting bracket for industrial applications (easy fix though with fender washers).

My 3HP table saw main switch just quit. This XFMR will provide the power for an industrial style pushbutton station in a recessed box, working with a discarded A/C contactor (24v coil) to side-step a $100 commercial Start/Stop PB station. I'll add a $0.59 recessed toggle sw in another box to 'enable' the contactor PB sta with an "Energized" pilot light. >>>Those w/problems with this 3rd grade device should "RTFM", or find some other way to over-energize your cardio system that won't produce a corpse.

This power supply worked well in my Pachinko Machine, but I believe that the 2AMP is misleading.

Here are the specs from the back of the package.

I do not know if the current ratings are input or output, or if it is 760mA per side. Still would 760mA x 2 still does not equal 2 Amps.

This would explain why so many users are saying that the supply burns up at full load. 760mA is just barely over 3/4 Amp.
Someone please correct me if i am wrong.

Yellow to Yellow = 25.5 VAC
Yellow to Black = 13 VAC

Still worked great for me.
