Item 274-0886 is stereo, not mono. If someone has a mono one, bring it back! But check carefully...the jacks fit very tight, and you have to push hard, twice, to engage a stereo 1/8" plug fully on each end. Unfortunately, this item has some bad reviews which suppose the jack is faulty, when in fact it's completely the opposite. What makes it difficult to plug in is the high-pressure contacts, which grip the connections extremely well, reducing dust/oxide between electrical contact surfaces. I wish every adapter was made like this. It reminds me of a higher-quality RF connector. i.e. I cannot tell for sure, but the insulator inside the connectors seems to be teflon.

I have an old RCA MP3 player which has a built-in FM radio that records, but because the radio relies on the headphone cable for the antenna, reception is spotty. Adding this adapter and a 6ft extension improved reception around 8dB, and of course gives me a nice long extension to move with.

This is probably the most expensive barrel/audio connector I've ever purchased. It would have be nice to get it on sale, but it offers more than average. You might not need this level of quality, but it's nice to have. This may sound silly, but it's also eye-catching.

The fact that this is mono is listed about 6 times in the description and the title. You can abviously tell from the picture...its got one band on the male plug. That means its mono! And yes, it works just fine for its intended purpose.

I, too, thought this product didn't allow for the whole plug to fit. All you need is a little more force and it snaps right into place! No worrying about whether they are going to come apart, that's for sure.

Its great for MY XBOX 360,buy a xbox 360 VGA cable and this your good to go on a monitor. Im playing my Xbox 360 now on my old CRT monitor(old fat monitor) in HD :D Just push it in and fits to place. So its really easy.

[...]. It does not take a rocket scientist to make this coupler work. Push the plug in with a little force and (drum roll please) it snaps right into place. Sometimes you have to be smarter than the equipment. Obviously that's tough for some people.

Adding headphone capability to TV. These couplers, including 274-1555, are all too short and standard jacks do not engage the contacts within the couplers. This problem has been reported before. Why hasn't Radio Shack halted sales and replaced stock with properly manufactured couplers? Where's Quality Control during the manufacturing process or upon receipt by Radio Shack?

[...] I went through my cable box and found a 90 degree 1/8" male. I forced the male into the coupler by squeezing the coupler and male pin between my thumb and forefinger. Sure enough the male finally snapped into the coupler. Did this on both ends which stretched the internals of the coupler. Everything works fine.

Used it to connect a Cambridge PC speaker system to my TV. I like the positive "snap" when the connection is made.
