Comments about RadioShack 100W In-Wall Stereo Volume Control:

The first owner of our house wired the house with speakers in several rooms. In our master bedroom, he had also wired a box for the volume control. So all I had to do was install the control; input/output wiring was already inside the box and capped off. The only thing I can really add from all of the other comments here already is that it was useful for me to do a couple things: 1) ensure that the wiring was stripped down to like maybe a 1/4" exposure to keep wires from touching and shorting the sound (I had to remove/cut/reinstall cause there was some touching and reduced sound) 2) I made sure that I connected to speaker outputs from my receiver where I could afford to up the level a bit if I wanted to. Going through the control did seem to lessen the volume overall just a tad for some reason, but being able to up the level on the receiver without affecting all other outputs was a big help. I ended up using the surround back outputs for mine since I wasn't using those anyway. Hope that helps someone.

Comments about RadioShack 100W In-Wall Stereo Volume Control:

I have used this in-wall volume control several times in a variety of applications. One of my favorite applications is to use this with a stereo in-ceiling speaker mounted in a bathroom. Some people look at me funny when I mention that idea, but what room in your house are you guarentied to used everyday? Why not have some tunes playing when showering, shaving, et cetera? A ceiling speaker is out of the way and goes almost unnoticed when not in use. The in-wall volume control makes opperation a breeze.

Comments about RadioShack 100W In-Wall Stereo Volume Control:

just to correct to consumer from woodbury. The terminal blocks come off for easy terminations. also these are only good for 100 watts. a 16 or 18 gauge wire is sufficient for this application. It seams that he is over-sizing the wire that is recommended. most home stereos are 200 watts; 50 per channel. Also you can get weidmueller stake-ons to avoid wires touching each other and shorting the speaker leads. For the price of this product, it is perfectly good enough for small home installations. I would recommend that consumer to open his wallet and pay a professional or; if he has a system that requires that size wire to buy a product that can handle it.

Comments about RadioShack 100W In-Wall Stereo Volume Control:

This unit worked they way it should, but the description should tell the user what type of amp it is for. Will not work with mine, and store will not take it back. Make sure you have a 4 channel amp. Not happy, I'll just sell it on the net I guess. Not sure how many more items I'll buy from the Shack.

Comments about RadioShack 100W In-Wall Stereo Volume Control:

Wiring into the little terminals is a delicate process. TIP: If your wiring is larger than #16, install short "pigtails" to the terminals, then connect them to your large wire using wire nuts.

Or, cut some of the strands off of your wire so that you can get it into the terminals. In any case, use your reading glasses, magnifying glass, whatever! And trim off any wayward strands of wire.

This item gets mixed reviews because some folk are used to working with small electronics so they can accept little terminals. others are only used to working with larger electrical wiring.
