Comments about RadioShack Size N Coaxial DC Power Jack w/Switch:

I don't think you can buy anything like this in public other than RadioShack. Use care when bending the terminals because one broke off on me (the sleeve or shell connection)but I still was able to solder a wire to what was left. I couldn't believe that the shell or sleeve was isolated from the mounting--which some mignt find useful if you use a metal chassis. I used it to connect power from a 6D cell battery holder to make a USB charger for my walkman and phone. I put two 10 ohm resistor in parallel and connected it in series with a female USB jack and the battery holder's 6 volt power using 4 alkaline D batteries. The two 10 ohm resistors in parallel (5 ohm equivalent to limit the current) went to the positive or shell of the jack which would go to the positive battery terminal when the plug is plugged in and the other end of the two 10 ohm resistor combination would go to the Red wire of the female USB jack. The negative went to the pin of the jack to the pin of the plug when inserted which would go to the black wire of the female USB cable. I connected the white and green data wires of the female USB jack to 100 ohm resistors and connected the other end of the two 100 ohm resistors together. I will need this charger when electrical power goes off in my building during a storm to charge my cell phone providing I have 4 D alkaline batteries available

Comments about RadioShack Size N Coaxial DC Power Jack w/Switch:

I cannot believe no electrical specs are listed anywhere. This is an electronic component that will be part of the power supply - what is the max current rating? The most important spec isn't found anywhere. Calling for tech support only leads back to the local store - useless.
