      • Cnc Millable

Comments about RadioShack 2-Sided Copper-Clad PC Board:

This material is decent for CNC milling because it is not particularly toxic as far as I can tell. FR4 is very toxic in comparison. I rated thickness of copper cladding as a pro and con because it just depends on what you are making.

I don't know how consistent these boards are from one to another. But on the board I have the copper clad is 0.016 inches or 0.39mm. You need to know this if you are milling on a CNC. One corner was delaminated and we peeled it up to measure thickness.

Comments about RadioShack 2-Sided Copper-Clad PC Board:

This board will work just fine for most circuit applications, unless you need FR4 board quality. This board is not an FR4 board and therefore cannot be expected to perform like one in all respects. If you don't know what an FR4 boards is then you probably have no need for it. If you do know what it is, just remember that this is not an FR4 board.

      Best Uses

Comments about RadioShack 2-Sided Copper-Clad PC Board:

The board seems to have a thicker-than-usual copper coat on it, making for long etch times that cause trouble when timing is important. Also, the fiberglass inbetween the copper plating will NOT take well to heating - DO NOT HEAT THIS PCB!! I was trying to use it for a direct inkjet etch-resist mask which required preheating the pcb (done with an airgun at 350F), the copper suddenly popped from gas forming within the fiberglass and copper shrapnel went flying everywhere - thankfully, nothing hit me. Be aware that this board does not take to heating very well!

These boards are perfect for creating your own printed circuit boards. The only issue I have ever had with them is trying to cut them down to sides but you would have that problem with any fiberglass based copper clad board.

etched an H-bridge onto this board that carries over 20 amps at 12vdc. I made the power traces large, but it has handled the power just fine. I was able to cut it in half to make 2 smaller boards. Will be buying more.

Comments about RadioShack 2-Sided Copper-Clad PC Board:

I've bought a couple to engrave on a cnc machine, wasted the first one getting the engraver set up right and finally got a really great looking result on the second board. This was cut and drilled on the bottom side and then the board flipped to cut the top side.
Using an engraver requires that the copper outside the traces be removed...TILT!!! I've heated and tried to tweezer the excess copper but it is not happening, even heating with a heat gun till the substrate popped in a non critical area. I can not get any more off and this renders the board unusable for this method.

Bottom line is that the board is too good for my purpose and is a great bargin for the price.

I came looking here for more details but can't find information on the weight of the cladding to be able to locate a suitable replacement.

Comments about RadioShack 2-Sided Copper-Clad PC Board:

This is a good product. When I first bought it, I did not know it was this big. I thought it was smaller, but boy was I wrong.

I built a PIC RCD Programmer using this board, with the toner transfer method. I noticed one thing, and that was that this board likes to stick to the photo paper, while other brands don't.

                              Overall, great board!
