Comments about RadioShack Size M Panel-mount Coaxial Power Jack w/Switch:

This thing is super sturdy in almost all way.

There is one HUGE problem with it. The metal flap that creates tension for the plug (on the opposite side of the photo above) was really tight and then at some point it got pulled funny and the plug stopped working, because it was touching the center pole and shorted out. I pretty much had to pull the thing off... It was very frustrating until I figured that out.

So keep an eye on that thing...

Drilled a hole and mounted jack onto enclosure, wired it in, connected wall wart plug. It fit perfectly and made a good consistant connection without any voltage drop.

Comments about RadioShack Size M Panel-mount Coaxial Power Jack w/Switch:

with a bit of alteration to the frame of most HP laptops it makes a replacement that will not break like the flimsy original.

But be aware that you can still break off the PLUG if you insist on moving it around while it is plugged into the P/S. Its just a 10 minute job to replace a plug compared to over an hour to replace a socket. see pics

Comments about RadioShack Size M Panel-mount Coaxial Power Jack w/Switch:

Doesn't take a genius to realize you need to use an Ohm meter to figure out pin sets if you don't have a diagram and if you are using an Ohm meter then you will realize that outer case will ground to metal frame.

Primarily used to replace DC Power Jacks in Laptops with "Plastic" shells and they work "perfectly".

                from Ballwin, MO

Comments about RadioShack Size M Panel-mount Coaxial Power Jack w/Switch:

Ohm meter ck indicates shield connection is isolated from body (mounting hardware). This suggests you can use either polarity for tip & shield connections. However, when a plug is inserted this is no longer true. This can result in shorting any positive shield connection when mounting in a metal cabinet.
