Comments about RadioShack Size N Coaxial DC Power Plug (2-Pack):

                  Right after opening the
RS package of two type N
                  plugs, I used an ohmmeter
                  to determine where each
                  solder tab connected.
                  To my horror, both tabs
                  connected to both the inside
barrel and to the outside barrel
                  meaning the plug was manufactured
                  in a shorted condition. The
same was true for the second plug.
I ordered replacements from a mail order
electronics competitor and their type N plugs worked fine.

Replaced power plug for laptop. Both packaged plugs broke before final installation. By-passed broken positive terminal and soldered directly inside tip. Within 1 week the complete plug came apart. Biggest piece of [$] junk I have ever purchased. Been better off to have purchased a BigMac. At least you get your monies worth.

Comments about RadioShack Size N Coaxial DC Power Plug (2-Pack):

It was hard to solder, use low heat and patients when solder, but did the trick. I fixed 2 Toshiba laptop power cords (1 needed both connectors replaced) and about to fix 1 more. Fits in to the stock Toshiba mount, but it is a sloppy fit. Fits very snug in the Type N panel mount # 274-1576 from Radio Shack.

The dog chewed the factory connector from my wife's laptop charger, and I have now replaced it four times with these disappointments.... I am now looking for a better manufactured model - won't be wasting any more money on these! The solder points (holes) are tiny and better suited towards 18-22ga solid-core wire. The metals are difficult to solder (sanding, etc. only makes it worse) without extreme heat, which apparently damages the "press-fit" of the male end through the ceramic core. The plastic housing is stretchy and useless, even when using shrink tubing to add stability and covering. The last one broke when laying the charger on the table (end fell out of ceramic core), and the one before that separated from the ceramic core when removing the cable from the charging port... what a rip-off on quality! The Female connectors are superior (all metal), and last for years! Why can't they make the male ends all metal too?? Anything beats this cheap plastic, covering tin-foil, wrapped around a ceramic disk!

Comments about RadioShack Size N Coaxial DC Power Plug (2-Pack):

Clearly some penny-pinching RS exec bought a gazillion of these from some sweat shop in China, and despite the abominable quality, decided to sell them (at the typical 1000%+ markup) until stock runs out. Where to begin? This connector's sole reason for existence is to carry more current than the 5.5x2.1mm version, yet this is made with such paper-thin sheet metal that the tabs tear off, or bend and short against each other. The plastic barrel is so brittle you can smash it in the bag between 2 fingers. The holes are too small for even 20ga wire. The entire body spins when trying to thread the cover on. The thin tabs are no where near capable of handing the 2-5A current most devices using this plug consume. Once even 20GA wire is neatly soldered on (by either stripping away half the strands, or not using the holes at all,) there is no way the cap is going to fit. The body is so loosely crimped/riveted together that it spins when threading the cap on. Every last one of these should go into a Texas dumpster, or be force-fed to the executive who ordered them-- and decided to accept the order. Continuing to sell this junk, year after year, is why old customers, used to at least a few decent products from 'the shack', stay away barring an emergency. Will this greedy hoard ever shape up?

If I called this cheap, [*] junk, it would be a step up. Solder terminals are too small and too flimsy to solder well. A little movement and they snap off. Plastic cracks easy and does not thread well onto the jack. Plug dimensions are not correct. Too much play in the jack. Other, quality jacks work well in this jack. High current melts terminal connector and causes arcing and short circuit. Jack heats up excessively. Don't waste your time or money on this junk. Order from [...] as previously suggested. Part # 090-492 works great as an alternative and [...] isn't much more than what Radio Trash wants.

I tried to replace the pluc on a laptop power supply. The first time I tried to solder to one of these the solder tag fell off. The second time the space was insufficient for the two leads so they touched inside the housing, which could have been disasterous if I hadn't checked.
