      • OUTSIDE HEAVY SOLDERING
      • SOLDERING TO BOLTS
      • WIND PROOF

Comments about RadioShack 1mm Conical Soldering Tip:

I MAKE WIND TURBINES FROM SCRATCH. SOLDERING THE 14 GAGE COPPER WIRE TO 14mm BRASS BOLTS NEEDS A LOT OF HEAT. IN THE WIND OR AWAY FROM 110 POWER SCORCES, IT IS A MUST. AND IT WORKS FOR SMALL APPS AS WELL. THE TIP IS EXPENSIVE BUT THE ABILITY OF THE BUTANE SOLDERING IRON OUT WEIGHS THE COST. 1 CHARGE LASTS 1/2 HOUR. CAREFUL OF THE HEAT EXHAUSTS FROM THE SIDES. I HAVE HAD MINE FOR 6 OR 7 YEARS NOW. TOO BAD THAT ALL I CAN PURCHASE NOW IS THE TIP. THE TIP LASTS ABOUT A YEAR OF CONTINUED DAILY USE IF TAKEN CARE OF.

      Bit expensive but convenient tool

      About Me Professional

      Verified Reviewer

      Pros

      • Fast preheating
      • Good heat control
      • No extension cords
      • Portable

      Cons

      • Plating is too thin
      • Poor quality
      • Side heat exhaust

      Best Uses

      • Minor Projects

Comments about RadioShack 1mm Conical Soldering Tip:

I service industrial machinery and have used Radio Shack butane iron and tips for years. A bit over priced for replacement tip, but convenience out weighs price. Generally I need to replace at least once a year when the plating wears off and the tip will not stay tinned. Watch anything close to the sides of the barrel, a lot of heat comes from the combustion area exhaust at high temp settings.
