Comments about RadioShack Dual-Heat Soldering Gun with Light:

I use it all most every day and it has bin a very good soldering gun. Heats up fast and gets the job done. I bought one for one other guy at work and he likes it to. If some one gives this gun a bad review they don't know how to solder. It's a very good gun for the price.

No tips, and no help

Comments about RadioShack Dual-Heat Soldering Gun with Light:

Bought the gun about 18 months ago and have used it quite often in the restoration of 5 old radios. Then the tip finally wore out. That is where the adventure begins. No tips, and the store personnel had no idea what to do. They cannot seem to find the part number suggested in the entries above. WHY DO YOU SELL A SINGLE-USE PRODUCT?

When I was younger, Radio Shack was the place for the hobbyist to go for parts and knowledgeable salespeople. I am afraid that is the case no longer. Poor quality and no replacement part availablity is not a good marketing scheme. Don't sell this product if you cannot maintain a stock of replacement tips. They do wear out!

After searching online for an hour for a replacement tip, I think I may have found it:RSU 11373297 Supposedly this is the part that you need and it's available at Radio Shack Online (only). I have purchased new tips on occasion, but they never have worked. This is the last time I buy a replacement tip for it. I could really use a working soldering gun right now.

Comments about RadioShack Dual-Heat Soldering Gun with Light:

This very lite duty gun has a 60 / 300 sec duty cycle. It is a lite weight in it's quality and manufacturing. If you had no need for more than 45 sec of heat every 5 minutes, it could meet your needs, if you are very, very careful. I would not use it to install a PL-259 ot tin 10 ga wire for powerpoles.

A poor man has to buy the best that he can the first time cause he sure can't afford to buy it again.

Comments about RadioShack Dual-Heat Soldering Gun with Light:

The 2 stage trigger would not work consistantly. The small work light, nearly hanging out of socket just out of the box. The few minutes of testing the gun, the gun would not operate consistantly for heat setting. Just did not get a quality tool feel. I tinned the tip, but not pleased with low to high temp operation. I felt that the gun was an unsafe tool. Returned to store in less than 24 hrs. Very disappointed, because had a 100 watt gun for years from RS. It simply wore out. What happened?

I bought this Soldering Gun in 2005 and it's still running strong. It's been with me in Iraq twice, and I have used it in all sorts of crazy applications and never had a problem with it.

I love the double screws that mount the tip. After constantly having to tighten the tips on a Weller this one gives me some relief. I control the heat by turning the trigger on & off. Wish Weller would use double screws.

Comments about RadioShack Dual-Heat Soldering Gun with Light:

I have been building electronic components for more than 30 years. I had a Weller gun from the 70s that lasted until I recently dropped it on a concrete floor and broke one of the leads. A soldering device is all about control and I have always liked Radio Shack products so I purchased one of these. The trigger is so poor that you cannot control the on / off heat and because it puts out so much heat the unit is essentially useless. Buy a well 8200 for the same money or less and you will be able to control the heat with a positive feel to the switch.
