Comments about RadioShack® Tip for Cold-Heat Soldering Tool:

Received as a gift and am pleased with it. Not intended for large heavy jobs; however, works great for smaller projects! Have used it for over 2 year's and am satisfied with what it does. The tip is fragile and not for really fine work.
Only problem I have encountered is that the entire surface of the grey(?)rubberized handles have become very sticky while stored about six months.
No real problem, Goo Gone first then WD40 = now good to go.

Frustratingly fragile tip crumbles after 1-2 uses. Pressing gently doesn't seem to remedy.

Comments about RadioShack® Tip for Cold-Heat Soldering Tool:

Some of the bad reviews may have possibly been posted by folks that expected more from the product that I do. The tip is no doubt fragile. It is ceramic and will chip if pressure is applied or if the tool is handled in such a manner that will torque the tip. I find the tool very useful to do fine, small work. I have broken the tip when I applied pressure etc. I find the tool real handy for small intricate work. The tip will consentrate the heat in a such a small area. When used properly it will either solder or desolder one joint and not disturbe a joint thats only 1/16" or 1/8" away.

Comments about RadioShack® Tip for Cold-Heat Soldering Tool:

The Cold Heat tool is the best soldering tool I have ever used! I use it for everything that does not require large QTY of solder to fix, build, or repair items.Yes the tips are fragile but you do not need to apply pressure like the plug-in type, just touch the contacts to light the red light ans you are off to the races. People who say this tool is junk does not know how to solder properly. Soldering takes patients and a steady hand. Use the right tool for the right job!!!!

Comments about RadioShack® Tip for Cold-Heat Soldering Tool:

this tool is NOT a soldering iron. it is a mini-arc heat source. treating it like welding rather than soldering gets better results. it is not for fine electronics, ther eare better tools. it is great for soldering on the go, like for automotive repairs, wiring, etc...
If you like to buy a hammer to drive a screw then this tool will frustrate you. learn to use it and you will be very happy.

thought i would give it a shot, tried on some motherboards . tip is way to big to get at solder points that a user could do them selfs ( dc adapter jack on a notebook )if yhou press to hard to make contact on an uneven surface such as a solder joint the tip crumbles. its ratehr sad thatg a 20 dollar item eats [$] tips like candy

works great way better than advertised. I use it with 14 gage solder. I used it on everything from my remote to repairing large electrical equipment. Only con it takes time and patience to learn how to use it correctly because it unlike any other soldering iron.
