Comments about RadioShack 25-Watt Pencil:

I use this iron with my Arduino projects and it works great. The work it has done has paid for itself several times over. The only problem is that it doesn't have any heat control whatsoever, but that's to be expected. It works perfectly for electronics so that's not really an issue for me.

      Comments about RadioShack 25-Watt Pencil:

I used this iron when I was first learning how to solder. It was nice because it was cheap, easy to handle, and compact enough to put away when not needed. I didn't really have too many issues with it.

The reason I threw it out was that the screw that holds in the tip got melted to the iron. This meant that I could not replace the tip. Also, when I went to remove the screw, it got stuck halfway out, which meant that the tip wasn't always sitting properly. It still worked, and for a couple of bucks I couldn't really complain. I probably had the iron on for 3-4 hours straight while working with it the whole time before that screw got fused in there.

As a starter's iron, this thing is great. Works well, does what you need it to. A temperature readout of some sort would be nice, but at this cost I'm not upset that it isn't there.

Same as previous write up's. Tip replacement screw fuses to make replacement impossible.

The iron took too long to generate heat
              The grip/handle was too warm
Users are probably better off with a Weller product

                  Comments about RadioShack 25-Watt Pencil:

I've had this for a couple months and it had worked amazingly! temperature was almost perfect for the average circuit board soldering. Eventually though it died and stopped heating correctly. That said it lasted almost a year with out ANY tip changing, just occasional tinning. That and it only costs [$] so I really can't NOT be satisfied. Moving up to a heavy duty station now, but I can't recommend this enough for beginners. If you don't already have an ALOT more expensive one then wha are you doing here? Buy it! Now!
