seems like the pin hole on this thing cant suck up the melted solder, original tip worked just fine till it burnt out but this replacement is worthless

this is the only thing i go to radioshack for. it is the most efective desoldering tool that i have come across, unfortunately the tips need to be replaced constantly. great marketing... i might feel more inclined to shop at radioshack if i thought they sold anything of reasonable quality. too bad.

Comments about RadioShack Replacement Tip for #64-2060:

We use these every day to replace transistors off of circuit boards. However - as the other reviewers note, they don't last very long. If you leave the desoldering iron for a long time (say 8hrs a day), after about 3 days the metal gets very brittle. That being said, when new, the tips work quickly and spreads the heat well. After a few uses, they have to be replaced or you'll be waiting a LOOONG time for the joint to desolder completely.

We have to keep a ton of these in-stock and you should consider that too.

                  Trying to find an alternative.

I have had one for many years and it works great for removing components from boards. I have had the same tip for at least 10 years and it is ready to be changed. I hope the replacements hold up as well, but based on recent reviews I am concerned they have changed the metal alloy. We'll see...

If you are looking for a desoldering tool that actually works, this is it. It makes quick work of removing electronic components from a circuit board.

The bad thing is the tips are total junk. I bought my unit about 3 weeks ago. The tip that came with the unit lasted me exactly one day before it began to crumble. I bought 3 replacement tips and those were somewhat better quality than the original, yet I have already gone through 2 of those tips in the past 3 weeks. They simply begin to crumble after a while. It can't be that hard to make a steel tip that wont break, after all I am just moving tin and lead.

As I said, it works well so it is still worth buying the tips for me.

very poor quality product. Extremely short usable life. Would have not bought the iron and tips if I knew the tip life was so short. If you buy this product, be sure to buy several tips to complete your project.

This works with the de-soldering Iron. They don't seem to last very long. They use to make a Iron Clad tip that held up real well and lasted about four times as long as the standard tip. I'd give that one 5 stars but not these.

This tip is very useful for desoldering parts from circuit boards, but as others have commented it wears out fairly quickly. One tip is good for a couple of projects. Make sure you have a few spares in the drawer.

Desoldering Tip #64-2061 is inferior to Iron Clad Desoldering Tip #64-2062. Tip #64-2061 wears out too quickly. Unfortunately, the iron clad tip is apparently discontinued.
