Comments about RadioShack® 45-Watt Desoldering Iron:

Needed to replace the stepper motors for the instruments on my 2004 Yukon. It required de-soldering 24 connections on the printed circuit board to replace them all. This tool made it easy with no damage to the board.

Tool worked perfectly. I used it to repair multiple pins on a circuit board as well as replace diodes on the same board. Worked much better then desolder braid.

Comments about RadioShack® 45-Watt Desoldering Iron:

This tool was left in my garage in a home that I purchased five years ago and I did not even know it was in there until I was faced with a soldering task on my 2004 Buick Lesabre's instrument cluster.

Being a first time solderer I had to look up videos to learn how to handle the job. As it turned out this little jewel made it so much easier.

It goes without saying "if I can do it, anyone can" using this desoldering iron!

Comments about RadioShack® 45-Watt Desoldering Iron:

Just got this home, fixing capacitors on motherboard, could not get to remove them. When I checked the temp it was only 320F, this product should get to 700F. It say so on the back of the package. Return it to store and waiting for new one. If the new one works I will post good review.
I see other people post that this did not work on motherboard, its because it did not get as hot as advertised.

I have been using these for over 25 years!
I have removed thousands of components with this tool. The tips do wear out, but at 2 bucks each, that's not an issue. I used to have a W31134 unit, but the tips are $10-$15 each and don't last much longer than these. Besides, I work on all sorts of electronic items and need different size tips for different size pins, so I keep the ones that wear out as the hole gets too big for small work but is just fine for larger pinned items (i.e. board mounted potentiometers). If you maintain these units (keep them clean) they can last for years. I am currently using one that is 12 years old. You just can't beat this tool!

Had this RS desoldering tool sitting around for something. LCD started to act up and the power supply was main focus. After researching the issues, I found a capacitor kit with the 18 caps needed to replace all the normal failed caps on LCD power supplies. Worked like a charm. Could not get the RS blue sucker tube to work as needed. No matter, LCD works great. Saved $40+ on just the supply and $180 if taken to the shop. Cool and recommend.
