I have several Weller 7200/8200 guns - these work fine, and in a pinch I have even use a piece of #10 bare copper wire with no problems. For those with Radio Shack guns - maybe wrong tip (theirs aren't just copper wire?), or not properly installed (nuts loose), or just a crummy Radio Shack gun? Its construction gives it a too low electrical resistance, therefore, most of the power will dissipate in your soldering gun. I almost fried mine with this tip. It takes over 1 minute of full power to heat it up to the point where it can melt the solder. By that time, your soldering gun will be really hot. Use at your own risc.
