Not the best

Comments about RadioShack 40-Pin Retention Contact:

Unlike the previous poster my local RadioShack had a couple of these. I really wanted ZIF sockets but these were all I could find locally (didn't have time to wait for online order).

The quality is sub par, if you press it down too hard the pins can pop out of the top (maybe that is better than them breaking I suppose). I purchased two of them and one was actually missing three of the pins out the box... guess I'll be returning that one.

I assumed retention allowed for easy access, but it is just as hard to pop my IC into/out of these things as it was my original plain sockets.

If you're desperate for some local sockets these are OK. If you're looking for safe/easy IC removal I would advise ordering elsewhere.

Comments about RadioShack 40-Pin Retention Contact:

Really this is the same IC socket you could get anywhere so no quality problems. However, because the Radio Shack CEO's decided that American ingenuity (and tinkering) is not worth anything and decided to eliminate almost all parts from their stores, I ordered online. This unit was thrown in the box with no packaging and all this pins were bent to the point that I could not use it. What's up, Radio Shack? You used to be cool, now you just sell Mobile Phones like everyone else. And for those of us who are still building our own radios, you can't even ship a little IC socket? Not good folks --Lost a customer.
