Cons Best Uses Comments about RadioShack 8-Pin Retention Contact: If you're using a soldering iron you need to first make your connections to this before you place a 555 chip. A IC will melt on the inside if you try to solder directly to it. You would think Radio Shack would carry these right next to the 555 IC chips. Sadly that's not the case.

Comments about RadioShack 8-Pin Retention Contact: I wish that radio shack sold the 8 pin that has longer pins. But alas I had to try to make this one work.

Comments about RadioShack 8-Pin Retention Contact: These are the best for when you need an IC socket, or several, and can't wait around for that Internet order to come in the mail. The only way I would improve these, is to gold plate them.

Comments about RadioShack 8-Pin Retention Contact: this is a good product for projects when you are prototyping or just don't like soldering to IC's. the pins on it are very delicate though, so you have to be careful
