Comments about RadioShack LM386 Low Voltage Audio Power Amplifier (8-Pin DIP): I am currently enrolled in engineering school and burned up the LM386 that came with my school parts kit. I was in the middle of a tough project and needed a replacement. The one I got at Radio Shack actually worked better than the one I got from school.

Best Uses Comments about RadioShack LM386 Low Voltage Audio Power Amplifier (8-Pin DIP): RS needs to show the datasheet! If radio shack did, it would be easy to connect according to National Semiconductor. Also there is a number just to the right of the dash. Different numbers tell different wattages. According to National Semiconductor, the LM386N-1 (the number I was talking about) powers an 8-ohm speaker with 0.325 watts. LM386N-3 powers an 8-ohm with 0.7 watts. And LM386N-4 powers a 32 ohm speaker with 1.0 watts! Thats like 4 WATTS of power for many speakers.

Comments about RadioShack LM386 Low Voltage Audio Power Amplifier (8-Pin DIP): built 2 very small portable guitar amps with this ic. requires very few other parts to opperate in basic use.**DOWNSIDE** once the battery(i used a standard 9V battery) drops below a certain voltage, it makes a very annoying buzz/hum sound.

Cons Best Uses Comments about RadioShack LM386 Low Voltage Audio Power Amplifier (8-Pin DIP): This chip is great, but there is not enough power. Perfect for small applications, but if you want your music loud, this is not for you.
Pros Cons Best Uses Comments about RadioShack LM386 Low Voltage Audio Power Amplifier (8-Pin DIP): There isnt an schematic or diagram to be found? Poor documentation makes this part useless to beginners and DIY'ers with little experience.

Comments about RadioShack LM386 Low Voltage Audio Power Amplifier (8-Pin DIP): I`ve used these for years for all kinds of things. (small sig. amps, ect.) I used one a few months ago as the heart of a audio mod. monitor. Just keep in mind that the n-1 sold here is the +5 vdc modal with an out. of 250mw. The n-3 version puts out the full 600mw or so off of +12vdc.
