Product Summary

Your source for component parts.

These devices provide two monolithic, independent timing circuits of the NE555, SA555, SE555 or SE555C type in each package. These circuits can be operated in the astable or monostable mode with external resistor-capacitor timing control. The basic timing provided by the RC time constant may be actively controlled by modulating the bias of the control voltage input.

The threshold and trigger levels are normally two-thirds and one-third respectively of VCC. These levels can be altered by use of the control voltage terminal. When the trigger input falls below trigger level, the flip-flop is set and the output goes high. If the trigger input falls below trigger level, the flip-flop is set and the output goes high. If the trigger input is above the trigger level and the threshold input is above the threshold level, the flip-flop is reset and the output is low. The reset input can override all other inputs and can be used to initiate a new timing cycle. When the reset input goes low, the flip-flop is reset and the output goes low. Whenever the output is low, a low-impedance path is provided between the discharge terminal and ground.

Comments about RadioShack LM556 Dual Precision Timer (14-Pin DIP):

They are great ics for any project needing a timer but jameco sells these for 29 cents a piece and the sockets are 13 cents. They are the same name brands just cheaper. For what they want for one of these you could get ten there I buy my perfboard here and my ics at jameco not to knock RS they need to make money to but it helps to shop around.

Comments about RadioShack LM556 Dual Precision Timer (14-Pin DIP):

Appears consistent with standard specs (National, Texas Instruments, etc.) Both single and dual performed as advertised. Used several (both 555 and 556) with no failures.

Comments about RadioShack LM556 Dual Precision Timer (14-Pin DIP):

I used this to get started in electronics. I saw that I could get 2 555's in one package for a little bit more than the price of one 555 and decided to get the 556. I haven't had any trouble with it. Most of the guides on the Internet are for 555's, so you have to convert the pin numbers to suit the chip.

Comments about RadioShack LM556 Dual Precision Timer (14-Pin DIP):

Was going to use it for a timer at my ham station.(kd7cjo) One side would never time out while the other would not time right.(it would give less time with each trigger, then finally stopped timing) I`ll just use 2 555s for this use.
