I thought it was funny that someone said they didn't get any 914s only 4148s. Don't forget these are not for high power. And they will pop if you hit them with too much amperage. One of the few 'pillars' of electronics, these will probably be around for another 100 years, maybe more. :) So great that local RS stores carry them, and even though they might be more than ordering online, the convenience is hard to argue against. Just remember that these aren't 'power' diodes. Much more than a few hundred milliamps of forward current, and they WILL pop. Spring for the 1N400x series if you need more forward current (up to 1A), or possibly one of the larger diodes RS carries if you need even more. Before anyone else publicly embarrasses themselves over the fact that the package contains 'only' 1N4148 diodes, look closely at the description, then look at a data sheet for the item(s): fairchildsemi.com/ds/1N/1N4148.pdf tl;dr THEY ARE EQUIVALENTS! The only complaint I have about this item is that the leads were quite twisted, and therefore work-hardened. So much, in fact, that a few were rendered unusable in my application (an amplifier with point-to-point connections, and really wide spacing for the through-holes). Oh well, only a couple out of the bunch being messed up? I can live with that.
