Basically I took an old cell phone camera, Gameboy SD screen and about 15 of the IR L.E.D.s...made myself a nice little head mounted F.L.I.R. its great for messing with friends at night!

I used this to replace a bad IR LED on the emitter board of an ice maker circuit typically found in Kenmore, Whirlpool, Kitchenaid, etc. side-by-side units with ice and water in the door.
Worked great.

Read this if you are interested in security illumination. I became interested in these after a purchase on a low budget security cam system which had 12 LED infrared lighting for night. The factory camera LED's definitely lit up the darkness but were very obvious to the eye emitting a red glow (later I learned they were lower in the light radiation spectrum, around 750nm).
I had purchased a few of these 940nm LED's to experiment with in a quest to dim the "red glow" - it worked for me. They will emit a faint red glow in total darkness but much, much less noticable than what I had.

Need illumination for video camera. Specs on some packages (bags, blister packs) are quite ambiguous; specifically, it would be nice to know for the forward current: nominal, maximum continuous, and max tolerated pulse.

The IR led has a forward voltage drop of 1.2V, not 1.28V as mentioned in the specs section. The led can go to a rated 100ma though, as also mentioned. I would not recommend running the led at high currents unless you pulse it, as to prolong the life of the led.

For everyone complaining that these don't work...Learn to follow directions. An LED is not a light bulb. You MUST put a resistor in series and put them in the right way or they may never work again. Also, for the person that said that they work better over the rated voltage...of couse they do. The voltage rating is the forward voltage and is what the diode drops so you must go over that voltage or else it won't work well, just make sure you use that curent limmiting resistor of the correct value and wattage.
