Comments about RadioShack DPDT 0.5-Amp Hobby-Type Knife Switch:

The switch is not ruggedly made and is easily deformed. Futhermore it rusts in a damp environment. Like most radioshack components, it is overpriced for the quality that you receive. I have purchased over a dozen of these atthe same time and most of them are now non-functional because of rust accumulation.

How bad can a knife switch be?

Comments about RadioShack DPDT 0.5-Amp Hobby-Type Knife Switch:

Wonder how bad a knife switch can be? Buy it and you'll find out. It's almost as if they've replaced the terminal screws (the ones that hold down your wires) with screws that have spherical screw heads. If/when you do get the wires down, they'll then be in the way and prevent you from closing the switch. I'm amazing to me that they took such a simple concept as the knife switch and managed to mess it up.

I have used these over the years as a kid in school, for science fairs.
For anything else, do some hunting for a REAL knife-switch... One made with solid copper contacts, knives, and mounted to a porcelain block.

They're found as antiques, and the newest ones date from the 1940s. Leviton used to make them, they came in DPDT, fused DPST, SPDT, and SPST. They were rated 120volts/30 amperes.
