Comments about RadioShack SPDT Paddle Switch:

When installed in my car's dash for some electronics modifications, this switch looked as if the car had been built with the switch there all along; this was my reason for selecting this switch and I remain very pleased by its appearance. However the switch did not survive the install. It no longer clicks into its positions and the leads out of the switch don't form a closed circuit with any combination of leads or position of the switch.

I would have paid twice the cost for a similar switch that would have survived the install in a heartbeat, and now I'm left regretting the decision I made to buy electronic parts from radioshack.

Comments about RadioShack SPDT Paddle Switch:

Had to return for an exchange. The first switch was a little flakey out of the package. After cycling it several times it made contact consistently. After soldering one contact, all the contatcs were shorted together (using a 30 watt pen). I've soldered personally and professionally for most of my career and never had this happen.

The second switch worked fine out of the package and after soldering each contact I checked for shorts and no problems.

The switch is not sealed at all and there is very little dielectric grease inside. The contacts are some kind of pot metal and already showed signs of corrosion. Don't use it on a boat or outside - an automobile might not be a good idea either.

It is a smart looking switch - the square cover and switch handle, but an easy to drill round mounting hole.

Comments about RadioShack SPDT Paddle Switch:

Worked great when I installed cruise control on my truck and used another one to control my radar detector.

Soldering them wasnt too bad, just gotta have a nice hot iron and use the right gauge of wire and know how to solder. Granted it would be nice if it had the typical 1/4" spade connectors as contacts.

Both have been working great for 2 years used 6 days a week.

Comments about RadioShack SPDT Paddle Switch:

To modify: take switch apart, two tabs retain insert.Use very small screwdriver or knife to carefully pry insert out.Bend contact bar into gull-wing shape, not radicle, maybe 3/64" total deflection.Remove silver pin and coil spring, stretch spring about 1/32" and reinstall.Reassemble switch and test. Should be good to go, if not, work with the contact bar configuration until switch tests good.Good luck and have fun with this. You will feel great when it works like it should!!! ;-) ready for use in my application... [@]

I tried to use this switch 3 times with no joy. I finally just gave up. I would consider myself pretty good at soldering and I never have melted or ruined anything like this before. This switch is junk and if your thinking of buying this switch, I would look for something else.

Comments about RadioShack SPDT Paddle Switch:

Melted the insides of two before getting the third to take. Its a bit awkward to have it mount from the outside then wires need to travel through the nut on the inside of your panel. Used in a boat and looks really nice but not durable.

Comments about RadioShack SPDT Paddle Switch:

i used this particular switch on a LOT of vehicle applications since these things are one of the cleanest looking switches that you can buy at radioshack. i have one on my trail rig to trigger different accessories when riding and not one has failed after 3 years of use. with regard to soldering the wires on the tiny pin-outs, i have NEVER melted one in the dozens that i have used. you wont melt it if you KNOW HOW to solder in the first place.it is a bit pricy for [$] each specially when you buy them a lot like i do.

As the other poster said this switch will melt unless your very careful soldering. I went through three of them until I got it right. Reason being that I insisted on this switch was because it looked good in my boat when I was adding accessories.

built of poor grade plastic that melts when soldering wire to terminal. Fails 7 out of 7 times when applying solder to wire terminals. Should be recalled as a defective part.
