Comments about RadioShack Red Button SPST Pushbutton Switch:

This button switch will do the job provided you don't beat on it. I have installed many of these switch's on a multi pad rocketry launch system and they are subjected to high heat, cold and dust. They have only failed when subjected to high winds, dust and moisture. All at the same time and even then it was only a couple out of many. They are a bit tricky to solder though, I have melted a couple also and use a Weller Soldering Iron with a very small tip to do the job. I also normally put heat shrink on the soldered connections to help as a strain relief.

Comments about RadioShack Red Button SPST Pushbutton Switch:

I also burned mine up while soldering one of the leads. I did not over do it, but the plastic melted. Because the price is low and Radio Shack is convenient, I am going to buy another one and try again. This time I will be sure to put a small heat sink between the switch lead and the body of the switch. That should stop the heat from the soldering iron from making it to the body of the switch. By the way, I did use a high quality soldering iron and did not use excess heat. This switch must be really sensitive.

Used this little beauty to mod a xbox 360 controller works perfect. It doesn't say anywhere on the specs page but this item is normally "open" it's a lot easier on the finger than the sub mini is and it's also 3 amps!

Comments about RadioShack Red Button SPST Pushbutton Switch:

This is probably the Chinese-made Shin Chin R13-502 series. RadioShack does sell it for somewhat more than the industrial suppliers do, but that's the price you pay for convenience. Like some people have noted, you can't apply too much heat when soldering to it because of its plastic body. Try not to use anything bigger than a 25-watt iron. And even though the listed specs here do not show it, this is indeed a momentary-contact switch. R-S has push-on, push-off switches if that is what you are looking for.

I think that the button was just fine for a infared pen but you would have to push the button down pretty hard for it to connect.

Great switch...no problems soldering and I hate to inform a previous reviewer, but it is supposed to only stay on when you press it! It is a momentary contact switch. I am using this switch as a replacement starter button for my son's ATV. It handles the amperage of the starter motor just fine. Great value.
