Cons Best Uses Comments about RadioShack Compact 5VDC/1A SPST Reed Relay: 1 amp is the rated max current, and 0.5 amp is the rated max switching current. That means you can run a max of 0.5A though it while switching it on and off. Any more than that can weld the contacts and make it "stick" on. But it can handle up to 1A current while not switching it.
Pros
Cons Best Uses Comments about RadioShack Compact 5VDC/1A SPST Reed Relay: I use the relay to control a 10W synchronous ac motor. After over 35,000 actuations, the relays are still working fine.

Comments about RadioShack Compact 5VDC/1A SPST Reed Relay: The web site says 1A, the package says 0.5A and the technical specs say 10W which equates to 0.1A. Which is it?????
Pros Cons Best Uses Comments about RadioShack Compact 5VDC/1A SPST Reed Relay: This relay sticks on a lot of the time. I had this relay controlling a buzzer (Radioshack# 273-057). The circuit rang the buzzer for about 10 seconds every day. For about a week, this worked fine, then the relay would stick on, and not shut off the buzzer. This proved to be a persistent issue, so i replaced this with another, non reed, relay. That has worked perfectly ever since.

Comments about RadioShack Compact 5VDC/1A SPST Reed Relay: The relay is used to control the shutters on astronomical observatory. The relay is connected to a Rain and Cloud sensor.

Cons Best Uses Comments about RadioShack Compact 5VDC/1A SPST Reed Relay: OMG!... I've got a few of these relays that I bought 30 YEARS ago, and they still work great. I was just using one for my kid's science fair project. Good to see they are still available. With a 250 ohm coil, they don't suck up much juice. Great for interfacing to logic.
Pros Cons Best Uses Comments about RadioShack Compact 5VDC/1A SPST Reed Relay: I used these relays in a robot but they continued to stick, completely depleting the batteries several times and the only way to fix them was to hit them. they're cheap but not very operable.

Cons
Best Uses Comments about RadioShack Compact 5VDC/1A SPST Reed Relay: I bought this to fire a camera flash as an airsoft flashbang (without the bang), but the relay sticks. I've returned it for a new one. Twice. And none have worked. To use my flashbang I have to smack it on the ground between uses to reset the relay; sometimes one hit does it and sometimes it takes half an hour of abuse. I will have to completely redesign my circuit for a different relay to make it practical.
