Comments about RadioShack Project Enclosure (5x2.5x2"):

This goes for all the project enclosures -
There are no dimensioned specification drawings provided!
These would be extremely helpful to (experienced) users in selecting and using a box. Providing them as PDF would be adequate. AI/CDR/SVG source files would be really nice.

I was hoping to find something quick so I can laser cut a top plate... guess I will have to measure and fab my own.
At that rate its almost easier to fab up my own complete box than drive to radio shack... costs less than gas!

Comments about RadioShack Project Enclosure (5x2.5x2"):

I selected this box for it size and designed a PCB to fit into the slots. However, after trying to get it to slide in, I found that the bottom of the box is about 0.1" smaller than the top and the board don't fit all the way down. I had to taper the board on the bottom sides to make it fit. The box is 5" OD on top and 4.9"OD on bot. The inside is about 4.85" on the top and 4.75" on the bottom. My board was 4.825" long and got stuck half way down. The ribs on the slides stick out about .05", so the PCB will fit snug on the bottom and almost make it inside the slides on the top. Bottom line is that the PCB should not be larger than 4.75" or it won't fit into the box.

It would be nice if RadioShack sold a kit with a project box and matching PC board because none of the boards they have match the built in standoffs in the project boxes.

I used this box to build my Exhaust monitor circuit. Plenty of room for a small circuit board and mounting toggle switches, LED'S, Buzzers, etc. Drilling is easy but the ribs on the side are not needed. Most of the time I have to remove them to fit my toggles switches flush on the side panels. Overall it's a great little box.

Good basic box. Has posts to fix a PC board inside. Also comes with both an ABS plastic and aluminum cover, so it's versatile in that way. Covers most typical uses.

This box has space for most professional connectors, including XLR and "D" types. Holes are easy to make. The only drawback is ribs inside the box (suposedly for mounting circuit boards)prevent flush mounting connectors and controls. These ribs have to be Dremilled off.
