I needed a parallel circuit cell holder and Radio Shack came through with a holder that was easy to re-configure. It started out as a series box but the contacts were easy to remove and cut. Soldering jumper wires to the contacts and re-inserting them was a breeze. Voila, a cell holder in parallel instead of series!

GREAT cell holder!

Its a battery holder and it holds batteries.
Sold to provide power through attached wires.
In fact it does in reasonable amounts.

I wanted a plain old battery pack, nothing special. I had a project with one installed when the battery holder broke, and nothing else to power it with and thus no way to make any more progress. Not wanting to wait for one to be delivered online, I went over to my local Radio Shack to buy one. I bought it, took it home and soldered the wires in. Put batteries in, turned switch on (on the battery pack, and no my project itself didn't have one) and nothing happened! So I remove the batteries, they all show voltage with my voltmeter. Huh? So I disconnect the wires and measure them with the meter. No power! COME ON! This wouldn't have been acceptable even for a one time use, because it didn't even work ONE TIME! It wouldn't work for a halloween light if I left it in it's package until halloween! I couldn't see anything amiss with it by looking at the contact or the place the wires went in. It's being returned and the hunt for a well-made battery pack continues! You'd think that something as simple as a battery pack would be pretty hard to screw up but whoever makes this garbage managed to do it!

I trimmed the wires to about half a centimeter from the box, stripped them, soldered them together and pushed them completely inside of the box. I then put 2 AAs and 2 Jimmyjane Little Chroma motors (which are the same form factor as AAs) into it, in alternating order, and closed it up. I switched it on and it worked! So much, in fact, that the thing nearly jumped out of my hand! Now I have an "electromechanical oscillator" (hehe) that cost [$] but works better than the ones that cost thrice that much! Thanks, RadioShack!

Used this to replace the Battery Compartment on an RC Vehicle. This fixed the problem that every time the RC Vehicle hit a bump the Batteries disconnected.
Like others I have also used this as a USB power supply for my gadgets.
It is small enough to fit in your pocket.
Also used it to make a Led Flashlight by taking Used Disposable AA batteries that are at 1.2V and using them to power a 4.5V Led Light.

Buy it and modified put on USB port for IPOD extra Battery pack.... or any device that use USB.

This is an outstanding product for the price and for what it is designed for. Just OUTSTANDING !!!
I just can not believe what the person from Portland Or said about this product and trying to modify this to drive 10 amps. The on/off switch and the wiring will not handle 10 amps. I just hope he understand circuits before he complains.

I 'Comprehend' what it is that gearhead is trying to convey:

The battery holders offered by Radio Shack, (or any other manufacturer), are all of the standard batteries connected in Series type of connectors in the holders. And if the consumer were at least provided the physical dimensions it might better facillitate the planning of some projects.

However, if you need battery holders which are pre wired in parallel, good luck trying to find them! Typically you have to modify existing holders from their stock series configuration for parallel 'Cell' functions. And attempting to do so usually only succeeds in ruining the battery holder.

Say for example, you wanted to wire up each 4 battery- battery holder, as a PARALLEL NiMH cell, using 2500mAh AA batteries. Which in parallel would give you a cell of 1.2V @10Ah. Then arraying 10 of such 'Cells' in series to give you a total of 12V @ 10Ah. Good luck trying to do this, as there are NO Off The Shelf battery holder manufacturers who make 4 cell battery holders configured for holding the 4 batteries in parallel.

And the Manufacturers just don't get the hints from the consumers about this either!!

its great they are improving the contacts for the battery holders, would be nice if there were more of these enclosed holders in "c" and "d" as well with the switches built right in
