Comments about RadioShack Chrome-Plated Spring CB Antenna Mount:

I've not had this spring long enough to see if it rusts or not like the other reviews said, but I got this 4" spring along with the 102" radioshack antenna.

I installed them both on a breedlove ball mount and fired up the radio. I got a 1.4swr on 28.4mhz, which is great, but on CB channel 19 I got a 3.2; Not great by any means. I've since had to go to another retailer to get a true 6" spring so I can try to get my swr better on the CB band.

I'd recommend this for someone operating on 10 meters, but not if you want to operate on 11 meters.

Comments about RadioShack Chrome-Plated Spring CB Antenna Mount:

The RS springs will not last forever, but no spring will. From time to time you will need to bend the spring and look at the center braid. They go out GET OVER IT and go buy another one or if you are smart you will keep a spare under the seat or in your tool box. So get over yourself and under stand nothing last for ever. I would replace my springs (I had co-phased 102" whips on top of my head ache rack) ever six months to a year. JUST GOOD RADIO MAINTAINCE.

Comments about RadioShack Chrome-Plated Spring CB Antenna Mount:

Tried it with a Hustler, but it was top heavy and the spring couldn't handle it. Changed to a Hamstick and works fine. To be fair, it was designed for CB antennas, not ham-sexy, heavy duty antennas.

It does what it was designed to do.

Comments about RadioShack Chrome-Plated Spring CB Antenna Mount:

they work perfect to let me keep my 102" whip antennas pulled down away from trees and other things that would break the mounts and als keeps them from snaping back and breaking a window. strong and heavy duty for the price compared to the truck stops one that were thinner.I bought 2 for my crossphase setup and they made my 102"s capable of getting out almost or a little more than 10 miles depending on the weather.

I attached a 102" Wire Whip antenna to the hitch of my truck. Even with this long antenna, the spring holds well. I have put no more than 30 highway miles on it, but so far so good. It seems to have good tension.

Comments about RadioShack Chrome-Plated Spring CB Antenna Mount:

Good for light - medium applications.
Not as rigid as a Stainless steel one (SSM-3)
Inside copper braid needs to be solid core copper.
Spring tends to deform from original shape easily.
Does prevent shaft breakage when impacted.

Recommend to everyone but a friend.

As soon as I added this to my 102" ss Whip, it was neccessary to retune the whip! These aren't like the ones you get at the truckstops as these tend to rust within 2 months. Yes, they will do the job, and yes, they will get rusty quick and look 10 years old on your new vehicle. Watch out for 'rust trails' after rainstorms!

Must have for the 102" SS whip to complete the remaining 6" for a true 1/4 wave electrical length antenna.. Shouldnt be much tuning to it. If there is it would be done by clipping the antenna its self or relocation of the antenna its self on the car/truck. You do not need to do anything to this spring as far as tunning your antenna as one of the above post stated..

This spring is an essential part for the 102 inch antenna. Its 6 inches added to the antennas 102 inches make the antenna 108 inches which is the proper length to make it a true 1/4 wave cb antenna. With proper installation on a mount, the swr will be 1.5 or less. Watch for the inner braid condition if you are stumped with bad swr. Its finish does weather, so clean on a regular basis.
