Comments about RadioShack Electronics Components Pack 2:

Working through Make Electronics book. Only to page 119 so far. Have this and first kit. You'll need data sheet for 2N222A in first kit cause they are backwards from book. Shrink wrap in this kit is too small for what they want you to do with it. Toss the lead free solder and ket 60/40 at least half the thickness of whats included. Missing pluggable socket for experiment 14. Only issues so far. Still pretty good value for the money and lets you get to work.

Comments about RadioShack Electronics Components Pack 2:

I purchased the book Make: Electronics by Charles Platt, and quickly found it would be very difficult to source all of the parts required for the projects in chapters 3 and 4 (see component pack 1 for chapters 1-2). I found this kit at radio shack and it did contain everything I needed to complete the projects (chapters 3-4 only) in one package, and I determined that it was far less expensive to just buy this kit than source everything online (my time isn't free, neither is shipping...) The kit provided extra components in many cases, in the event you fry something, not that I would ever do that...No.. The thing to remember here is that these components are specifically supplied to complete the projects in Charles Platt's book, so if used specifically for that purpose, data sheets weren't really needed. You can look up data sheets by googleing the part numbers printed on the chips, relays etc. I did not experience any significant problems with the kit at all. Almost every component I used worked as advertised. It made doing the projects in this book very rewarding and resulted in far less "head-scratching" for me as a beginner. The project box they include is a bit smaller than I would like, but managed to cram the reaction timer circuitry into it-not easily. (you can see pictures of my completed projects in my review of the Make: Electronics book. The buttons on the keypad would stick at times, so I did purchase another keypad from another supplier. I completed nearly every project in the book with the help of this kit. I'm glad radio shack did the work of assembling this kit. I'm still using some of the "extra" components for other projects when needed.

Comments about RadioShack Electronics Components Pack 2:

This is an EXCELLENT kit in both price and quantity to go along with the Make: Electronics book. Instead of scouring the Internet or catalogs for all the individual pieces, RadoShack has come up with a real time saver for those of us just getting into electronics. Some of the pieces are very difficult to even find and order online. This kit would also be ideal for after school STEM activities. An awesome kit at an affordable price. All you need are a few tools and you're on your way to MAKE something cool.

Comments about RadioShack Electronics Components Pack 2:

I apparently pay a bit more attention to detail than the other commenter that bashed this kit for not having documentation, and whom combed the whole internet for info for each part instead of reading the page he bought the kit from when it clearly says the kit has " virtually everything required to tackle the projects in chapter 3 & 4 of Charles Platt's Make: Electronics book." So I purchased the 2 kits and the book and had a blast working on the projects! It is a great learning tool!

Comments about RadioShack Electronics Components Pack 2:

With this you get a lot of useful parts if you are trying to expand the capabilities of a microcontroller such as the Arduino I recently purchased in store at Radio Shack. The down side is that for such an expensive kit you would think they would have documentation on the components especially the DTMF key pad, LED display, and Integrated Circuits(IC). They only give you a part description and nothing else. Some of the more common IC's included such as the 555 timer IC should not be an issue, but otherwise, no pinouts, and no voltage specs, nothing. In fact the only reference to the LED display that I could find with my favorite search engine was to some manufacturer in China that also does not have any documentation. In fact it was a poorly constructed website which came out terribly when translated. Radio Shack should at least drop a PDF file on their website with some pinouts. Not just that there was no breadboard that came with the kit. It comes with some solder based protoboards but if you buy this you are going to need some other addon kits to do anything useful with it to integrate the components as part of your Arduino/PIC/Parallax micro-controller projects.

Bottom line while the kit has a lot of useful good quality components, for the price and lack of documentation, I would not recommend getting it unless your willing to comb the internet for references to obscure part numbers to find the circuit schematics, specifications, and pinouts... I am sadly disappointed in the product and Radio Shack. It used to be you could get stuff like this with details on every gate and pin the chips contain, not so with this one...
