Comments about Uniden® BC125AT 500-Channel Compact Handheld Scanner:

I really like this scanner. It was easy to program any frequencies I wanted to. I have to admit that the software that was supposed to pop up when plugged in to the computer did not do so. However, again it is easy to work with and customize. The backlight is awesome and it's easy to navigate once you read the manual on how to do so. My main complaint is the battery life. Even with the included NiMH batteries it doesn't last long. Probably about 3 hrs. constant scanning or holding. It can also be switched to run on alkaline. However, I use a USB converter to plug into a wall outlet and you can listen while it's plugged in. You can also plug it in a car USB port. The other complaint I have is about the reception with the supplied antenna. When listening to the intl. airport 12 miles from me I cannot hear the towers transmission at all. Also, I cannot hear the ATIS. I can only hear the aircraft. However with my 30 year old base scanner from Realistic I can hear both sides of the transmission and faintly hear the ATIS. It has 12 inch telescopic antenna. It's excellent for listening to local emergency services. So a bigger antenna might be desired. Still I'm REALLY happy with it and was definitely worth the price.

Comments about Uniden® BC125AT 500-Channel Compact Handheld Scanner:

I use this thing when I go railfanning all the time now. Depending on where I am, this thing picks up trains from where I am from about 3-4 signals out from my location (which isn't too bad). Sound quality is as good as it gets, the only downer was that it took a while to learn how to program frequencies into the scanner (the customer service people were very rude about it).

    A definite buy though!

Comments about Uniden® BC125AT 500-Channel Compact Handheld Scanner:

Had a trunking scanner from RS previously. I got this and didn't open the manual. Mistake!
Read the manual. The key is to start with the service scanning which offers Police, CB, Ham, and many other bands pre-programmed for listening.
After this then continue to programming your own freqs. and tags. A great unit and well worth the investment to learn how to setup and use.

Comments about Uniden® BC125AT 500-Channel Compact Handheld Scanner:

One of the best analog scanners on the market. Great amount of memories divided into 10 banks. I have the banks set up by towns. Weather scan, Close Call, frequency scan by service. Great reception using just the rubber duckie. But, I recommend the RadioShack telescoping antenna for best reception! Be sure to extend the antenna all the way, then push in the metal piece right above the loading coil for best reception in the police/EMS band.

Comments about Uniden® BC125AT 500-Channel Compact Handheld Scanner:

Do NOT purchase this product for police scanning. Doesn't work at all for any emergency frequencies. Shouldn't be listed as a police scanner. Eneded up with an extremely dis appointed birthday girl who wanted a police scanner. Thought it would be an entry level piece, but not worth the powder to blow it up.

This scanner is a great little airband scanner. Very simple to program and use. Highly recommend for conventional scanning only (will NOT do trunk scanning). I use it as my airband only scanning and it works great in both civ air and military air scanning.
