Comments about RadioShack® Emergency AM/FM/WX Crank Radio (Red):

Bought this to use on my sailboat.
I liked the idea of not needing batteries, and especially liked the idea of being able to charge my cell phone (a necessity in an emergency on the water) from it. Didn't use it much as it was intended to have for emergencies, but cranked it up probably fifteen times over a period of a year or so. Worked great until the internal crank mechanism broke. Still worked on batteries of course, and that's when I realized the charging feature also didn't work. So there went the two reasons I bought it. Stopped by the Radio Shack store where I purchased it and of course they said without having purchased the extended warranty, there was nothing they could do. I guess Radio Shack built it to last only a couple of dozen times, and then you're just out of luck. Not exactly a product I would rely on in an emergency, which is what they push in their promo. I'll get another one... different brand next time.

Comments about RadioShack® Emergency AM/FM/WX Crank Radio (Red):

I live in an area where the weather is quite unpredictable (Piedmont). I am visually/hearing impaired and having the radio keeps me informed of changing weather conditions. I walk my service dog when I am home but when I travel I need to know how to plan for our safety and comfort. This radio adapts to the local NWS and gives me the info I need without having to wait on the news channels or music. The light is a big plus and knowing I have the ability to get instant information whether or not I have batteries or electrical service is comforting in an emergency situation

Good radio for your emergency kit

Comments about RadioShack® Emergency AM/FM/WX Crank Radio (Red):

Bought two one for each cars as an emergency kit. Crank it per the instructions - 90secs gives over 10min of radio usage. Comes with rechargeable nimh batteries that may have to be replaced down the road - they look like the cordless phone battery. You can add your own AA batteries to bypass cranking but then why would you buy this radio....

Easy to use, nice AM/FM/NOAA digital tuner, volume and tuning dials. NOAA stations are easy to find and you can set a weather alert. Too bad no memory presets for the radio, I assume hand crank power is the reason.

There is a USB charger but I don't think you can charge an iPad or large item like so but maybe simple cellphoes would be ok.

Too bad they are not weatherproof, it would be the only other thing useful for the radio.

These would be good for camping also.

Comments about RadioShack® Emergency AM/FM/WX Crank Radio (Red):

I payed three times the cost of this radio for a Chinese brand that was rated higher and raved about in magazine articles. This radio has the same and better sensitivity. This radio sounds way better and is better balanced. This radio has a nicer display and larger knobs. I think the big handle is very useful.

I bought this for emergencies. That goodness we have not had any recently. It is not emergency tested yet, but overs a lot of functionality for a very reasonable price and should be an asset in an emergency. Tested all the functions and they all seem to work well.

Comments about RadioShack® Emergency AM/FM/WX Crank Radio (Red):

I bought this in June as a gift for my brother, who is blind. I am his caretaker. He uses it every day. We have yet to have the batteries go dead, and he cranks it for about 2 minutes and gets a long period of usage. He listens to NOAA every day, and intermittently listens to both AM and FM on it. Of course, he can't make use of the flash light, but he did charge his mp3 player on it one day. Simple, and invaluable if you lose power frequently.

HOW CAN PEOPLE COMPLAIN THAT THIS DOESN'T HAVE AN ELECTRIC ADAPTOR WHEN IT SAYS IT IS A HAND CRANK RADIO? I have a flashlight like this too and they are FANTASTIC when you don't have any other power source. Because that's usually when you find out you don't have fully charged batteries laying around either. These lithium batteries last a long time if you do it right. They usually say not to crank for more than a minute. Used correctly, these are great. If you DON'T BOTHER TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS, YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED!

My daughter gave it to me for fathers day and I come to find out that no one has a ac adapter for sale I can use, or they are more than half the price of the radio making no sense at all. I'm kinda stuck with it.
